I'm playing in event #2 of the WSOP-C in Indiana tomorrow.

My first WSOP (OK Circuit) event ever.

Wish me luck.

I'll need it. I'm so bad at poker.

By the way J., you play CIRCLES around my untalented a$$ and I took TWO first places this year in live events so you should like take 1/2 place or whatever is better than first place.

Relax, have fun and don't make any stupid decisions. Pocket 9's CAN go into the muck preflop. So can tens and jacks if your gut is telling you something.

Catharsis.

I went with no real plan. I just figured I'd play opposite the table. if it was tight, I'd play loose, if it was loose I'd play tight.

Starting stack size 7000, blinds at 25/50 and increase every 40 minutes. 540 starters, top 54 pay.

First hand of the tourney I'm in the BB. With one limper, the SB completes and I look down to AQs. I don't think I can raise the limper off of her hand but I'd like to blow the SB out. I raise to 200. Limper calls SB folds. Mission accomplished.

Flop comes JsTh2h I'm not in love with my hand OOP but I do have 2 overs, a g-shot and a backdoor flush draw. I bet 225 and am completely ready to fold to heat. She flat calls. Ug. Turn is a 4s giving me a flush draw, so I bet 375. She calls. YUCK. I'm done if I don't hit a draw here. River a Q. I check intending to call a bet of half pot of less. She checks behind and shows AhJh. I suck out and am chip leader. YEA ME!

Very next hand I'm in the SB 3 limpers and I look down to TT, so I pop it to 300. BB folds and all call. Flop is 3 raggy unders I bet the pot, not wanting to see the turn. All fold. I'm cruising here and we're 2 hands in.

Next hand I'm OTB and after it folds to me I look down to 99. I raise to 150, both blinds call and I flop top set. They check I bet half the pot and they both fold.

Three hands in and I'm up a good amount, but know that my image is wildman so I have to take it easy.

Not much else eventful happens and by the end of the first level I'm up 1650.

In the next two levels though things don't go so well.

My over pair runs into a turned set and I lose a bit. My opponent plays his hand badly and wins just about the minimum from me.

It turns out we have a very laggy, but good player two to my right. (We'll call him LAG). This hand cost me some chips.

With blinds of 75/150, I look down to 7h8h otb and I limp after 4 limpers to me I call, SB and BB complete. Flop comes Th9h2c. Checks to me and I bet it for 700. Only the lag calls. Turn 3s. LAG checks I bet 1200. LAG calls. River pairs the board 9d Lag now bets 3K and I fold. He shows 74o. No biggie, I can't call with 8 high. Turns out LAG is a real bluffing station. he can't help himself. After running his chips up to like 20K he eventually bluffs them off and is back to average.

I play a little lose in LP and actually after the two biggish hands and at like 4K at the first break.

We come back and I do a lot of folding waiting to pick my spots. I steal a few hands and maintain my tsack. Even though it's not great right now, in relation to the blinds I'm still in good shape. With blinds of 100/200 a guy opens UTG +1 for 600, gets three callers and I call OTB with KcQc. The blinds fold. The flop is awesome, AdJdTh. It checks to me with 2700 in the pot and just under 4K in my stack I just move in at it. It folds to the guy immediately on my right and he snap calls with A8o. Turn 8. I say "Don't do it to me dealer". River 2c and I darn near triple up. I'm at about 9K now.

A few hands later I reraise LAG with AK and he folds and I build my stack to about 12K by the next break. My plan is to let LAG take some hands (he loves raising his button light even with a field. I figure I'll repop him about 1 time in every three.

I come back from the break and hit a good run of cards. With blinds of 200/400/50 I look down to AA in mp. and I pop it to 1600 after LAG limps in EP. The button, who was a good player (and a former NBA player)flat calls and the lady from hand #1 in the BB Comes over the top all in for like 3K more. LAG folds. Now I have to decide if I want to smooth call and trap the button but since I'm OOP and the button has me covered I decide to play it strong and come over the top all in. Button folds. Lady shows QQ and I knock her out. Button says, before the flop that he folded 88. The flop brought an 8 so it's a good thing I played it the way I did.

I bust another guy who was loosey goosey when I raise in MP with KK, he calls flop comes jack high and he moves in. I call and he shows J8s. He wiffs the turn and river. I'm now sitting with about 20K with the blinds at 300/600/50.

I go completely card dead but reraise LAG enough with air in the next level to maintain my stack. He even comments about how I'm bullying him around but he knows I always have a hand when I reraise him. He has me pegged as tight, which, for the most part is correct. The action at the table heats up and the card dead continues. By the dinner break I'm down to about 12.5K.

When we come back from dinner the blinds will be 500/1K/100 and I'm not loving life. I know a lot of players bust after the dinner break, so I decide to play snug and wait for a hand to go with.

Hand 1 after dinner I'm in the BB and fold to an EP raise. Same business on hand 2.

Hand 3 after dinner LAG, whos' stack has been fluctuating wildly, but is now at like 25 K opens from MP to 3100, it folds to me OTB and I look down to AsKs, well his opening range is massive and I'm almost always ahead here. I push. Blinds fold and LAG goes into the tank. He asks to have the 3100 pulled in. Saying if he calls me it shows how bad he is. I figure him for a small pair. I'm OK with a call here. Finally he calls with 7s8s.Of course he flops his 7 ball, I don't improve and I'm out in 94th place, well out of the money.

To be honest I played 8 hours of really good poker. I took no bad beats, rarely got my money in badly and feel good about the way I played. I'm not a player that can win in NL without cards and the long 2 rounds of being completely dead really hurt my. My stack was never big enough to thug around the table. when I was chip boss of the table I only had about 30 bets and was getting action so I had to slow down as my cards went dead.

I'm happy with how I played, just today, the cards didn't cooperate

I'm thinking about going back Tuesday for the $345 HORSE where my edge will be much larger, but work may not make it possible.

Losing sucks.

I want to thank J for the report.

Because I've been there. Play perfectly or nearly perfectly and get your butt kicked by luck. But I was on the verge of forgetting how tough it is to cash especially since the level of competition is REALLY skilled compared to what it is a few years ago.

I almost plunked down $1580 today for a tournament over at Hustler at 3pm my time. Instead I'm now headed over to the office to do month end reports for work until afternoon football starts. J brought me back to earth with the realization that not every tournament is going to be a walk in the park and you waltz home with wads of Benjamins in your hand because I was in GENUINE danger of feeling that way.

I think J did a kick ###### job.

Except for forgetting to do a blood sacrifice of a virgin beforehand.
