| I know that playing with world class players is ho hum to some of you, but I logged into UB tonight and played with Phil (and it was at least his login, as it was on my UB buddies...) And I won! I took one pot off him. It was a whole new rush, like when I first started playing online!!!! Of course, he was playing triple draw 2-7, so I grabbed my S/S and read how to play while waiting for the BB to come around. Played tight and walked away with some of his money. Boo yah!! According to Rounders, I should head to Vegas for the World Series, right? (p.s. I know I got lucky. I don't care.) | ||

| I know what you mean by the celebrity rush. I opened a table on UB one night, then Phil sat down and it filled up and got 75 rail birds. We split a pot both betting AJ aggressively with J as top card on flop. Other than that, I made money watching everyone act stupid because Phil was there. Of course he sat down with like 4 grand at a 1/2 kill table. | ||

I was in a game with Lou Diamond Phillips last night and it got real stupid - real quick. Talk about a texture changing moment in a game when he sat down. Their particular brand of stupidity didn't suit me so I changed tables.

| Actually, according to "Rounders" I think you need to lose your life savings to a totally connected and ruthless hardass that wants to sell your body on the white slave market, then honor your friendship with a lowlife who's greatest ambition is to leave town after screwing over the hardass that wants to sell your body on the white slave market, then get your head bloody beat in by officers of the law who your friend set you up with, then go begging to your very very last resort for financial salvation, then risk it all in a game against that very hardass who wants to sell your body into slavery and who demolished you in your last game, then beat him once, twice, and three times until he cries for mercy. Then your ready for Vegas and the WSOP. | ||

| he he. My claim to fame is I once ran Mason Malmuth off the table in a game at the Mirage. Four handed he tried stealing the blinds with 56suited. He just couldn't understand how I could call and get so lucky. I won about $500 from the two guys that stayed who also couldn't understand how I could be so lucky. LOL | ||

| That was a crack up synopisis my friend! Still a dammed good movie! I do think that "Worm" just wanted to get the insane debt off his head and get back to his normal card cheating life. That was his ambition. Cheers, Derek | ||

Saw PH at a $100 NL table (higher than I normally play - lower than he does)...I too had the "how many times am I going to get to play with a World Champ" thought and bought in...after about 15 minutes I get AK and raise $8 - Phil - on the BB goes all-in...I've got a story either way - but I just HUNCH he is on AQ - so I call...K on the flop lets me breath a bit and when the cards turn over - I was right - he has AQ... I wish I had gotten a screen shot of that - and his "nh" response...it was about the only nice thing he said at the table all night (the idiots also come out to play when Phil is around)... Now I am smart enough to know this is EXACTLY WHY UB pays Phil to play with us - so we can say "I beat Phil Hellmuth" heads up...or "Phil Hellmuth has a bunch of my money"... But still - it felt good... ;-)

| I was on a 1/2 kill table with Phil NY's eve. I always love to get on his tables because you can win a fair amount of money from *everyone else* if you take a legitimate pot from Phil and he shows respect later. This particular night I had AA UTG. I open raise, MP re-raises, Phil cold-calls from the SB, and I capped. Flop came 3K3 rainbow. Long story short, I slow-played the flop and got aggressive on the turn and river. Final board was 3K3?T and my A's and 3's took it from Phil's K's and T's. The rest of the session was profitable :-) I am willing to wager that Phil would never call 3 bets cold from the SB with KTo in what he considered a serious game. Jim | ||

| What in the hell is triple draw 2-7? Is that lowball draw, with Aces counting as high and straights and flushes counting against you? So English rules? Derek | ||

| Exactly! And It's called 2-7 because that is the best possible hand you can hold, (2,3,4,5,7 is the best hand), as long as it doesn't contain a flush with it...thus, straights and flushes count against you, and Aces are high cards. You can draw up to three times or chose not to draw at all. 4P- | ||

| Thanks for the reply. It's a rare thing to see such a game in our dealer's choice games. Lowball almost always amounts to A-5 lowball rules. It's the standard in this county I'd say. Furthermore double draw is pretty odd too, even even though I have seen it played on Planet Poker. Seems to be too much dealing I guess. DMJ | ||

| At the end of the hand, A,2,3,4,6 offsuit would beat any other holding that *also* contained an Ace, but it is not the lowest hand possible in 2-7 lowball. The lowest and best hand possible in 2-7 lowball is 2,3,4,5,7 offsuit. 4P- | ||

Actually, that's close but not quite right. A is always high, so 2,3,4,5, A off suit is the lowest possible hand with an A in 2-7 lowball (also called a "perfect ace"). It loses to K,Q,J,T,8 offsuit.

| Obviously I wasn't clear in my statement...not unusual for me pre-coffee... ;-) Yes - I realize that in 2-7 lowball - A2346 is not a great hand (actually 2346A)...the original poster was asking if 2-7 Lowball was English Rules Lowball - and from my readings - English Rules allows an ace to be low (while straights are bad)...so the low would THEN be A2346...essentially I thought English lowball was a 3rd different game from A-5 and 2-7... But again - I could be mistaken... | ||
