Had $1 on Pokerstars, now have $730, Kenny, 31. Dec 2003 13:41

I used to play limit 2/4 and 3/6 on pokerstars. After being up over a thousand dollars, I had one terrible night. I pretty much lost all of it...the worst streak I've ever come across. I finally busted out. A friend on PS lent me one dollar so I went to play on the .01/.02 NL tables.
Next thing I know I have 10 dollars. Next day I have 20, then 30. I go up to .10/.25 and go back down to 10 bucks on one hand. So i go back to .01/.02 get it up to 30 again and hit the .10/.25 NL
It's been less then a month and I was up to $730 yesterday. I now play on $1/2 NL tables (two at a time) or 20 or 30 dollars sitngos.
I find NL has really helped my game. Position is so much more important and PEOPLE ACTUALLY FOLD. So often in limit games I would lose to calling stations who would catch two pair on the river and so on. With a good size raise in NL, it's not a common occurance anymore.
So my suggestion to you guys out there who find limit provides too many bad beats....play NL. But practice on the lower tables first. NL is a different sort of monster.

Actually I've never played on a play money table.
I'm just trying to give some advice for people who have bad luck at limit games like I have. This solution worked for me, so I wonder how many other epople it would work for.

3 days ago I was down to $3.40 on UB.com. Decided to play the .01/.02 pot limit Omaha 8/b just to learn how to play the game(never played before), and have run it up to about $85 now. I already think I'm better than 75-80% of the players at the .10/.25 pot limit tables...lol

cheers,
dlooooolb

As a semi-regular at the .10/.25 PLO tables on UB - let me tell you...

Yes - 75-80% of the players there are terrible - but the top 10% can eat you alive...I have learned this lesson the hard way...just tread carefully... ;-)

I started out with the free 15 at gaming club too. and after a month im up to 4,000. after winning a bunch of money in the rookie freeroll i bought into high stakes tables like 5/10 tables with the minimum. so i would buy into a 5/10 table with just 100 dollars. it takes a lot of patience, but after catching a really nice hand i go all in, and usually double up, since im not going in with much compared to the big stacks at the table, and usually i get atleast 1 caller. but you gotta be able to live with getting out drawn after going all in. then after getting some money at the table i can see more blinds and not go all in as much. its worked well so far. = )

I had a similar situation. I deposited 50$ on pokerstars and got it up to 150$ but lost it all because i was playing to high for my bankroll and kept getting drawn out on. A friend lent me a dollar and i brought it up to 80$ so far...

I must be one of the horrible players. Never get anywhere in the tournaments! :)

I play on UB and played play money for a month before going to real money(playing on line for two months now). Played in tournaments and open tables, both limit and now no limit, in the $.01/02 binds. Can't seem to make it yet in the tournaments, but the ring games are profitable and thinking of moving up to higher stakes now that my bankroll is getting larger.
