| Looking through tournament rules I came across the following: "Soft playing or chip dumping is grounds for disqualification from the tournament." Can someone please define "soft playing" and "chip dumping"? Thanks! | ||

| This is from Michael Wisenburg's Dictionary of Poker: --------------------------------------------------- soft-play someone (v phrase) Put no pressure on a person, as described under soft (definition 5). 5. (adv) Without putting pressure on. "He always plays her soft" means that when he gets in a pot with this particular young lady, he does not bluff her, nor does he try to push her around with aggressive betting. -------------------------------------------------- Chip dumping is when two or more people are "working together" in a tourney. So say Cheater I is the chip lead, or has a big stack in a tourney, whereas his "buddy" Cheater II is shortstacked or has a moderately low stack. They are seated at the same table, so Cheater II purposely calls Cheater I's raises and bets, then folds on the river, or mucks after the river, in order to GIVE his chips to Cheater I, so that their cheating "team" will have a better chance in winning the tourney. | Thanks for the info FeliciaLee! I don't exactly understand how soft playing is cheating (this particular rule was spelling out how cheating won't be tolerated) though I can see it as making the competition unfair. I certainly see how chip dumping is cheating however! | ||
