Amir Vahedi's Mistakes, Highflyin3484k, 30. Dec 2003 14:56

While watching the Thnxgiving Poker Million (again & again)

I tried to think of what I would do in both of Amir Vahedi's pre-flop blunders.

1- He is on the button and ANNOUNCES raise the blinds 3x to 15,000 with 3 5 off, he is a short stack, and does not realize that the pot was already raised by Daniel Negreanu to 15,000 with K 6h, Thus verbally binding Amir to bet at least 30k and putting another 15 in. So he puts in 15k, which I think he has already given away he was just making a button raise. Flop comes K 8 3... so he's picked bottom pair and is checked to. He decides to bet half his stack of 25,000, and is quickly raised all in by Negreanu. He of course folded.

Here I think I would have check/folded just go ahead and bite the bullet for your mistake.

2- He is UTG with KJo and raises the pot, Negreanu calls, Amir thinking he raised throws his cards in the direction of the muck, then quickly realizes his mistake and grabs them before the dealer takes them (I dont know if the dealer could anyway b/c the action couldnt get back to Amir). Anyway flop comes Q 9 6 and Negreanu decides to bet a hefty amount with only pocket three's which I like. Amir smartly folds. I think that if he had not done accidentally folded, he could have takent the pot away from Daniel.

I have not seen a player so distracted during a tourny as he was.

Not one but two. Both against Sammy Farha. One he kept betting into the pot while Sammy had a hand. The other he went allin on a bluff. I believe he talked to Sammy, and then Sammy, holding the ace to make trips, called him down.

its very easy to label someone's play horrible or bad when you can see all of the hole cards involved. The mental mistakes Amir made against Dan Negraunu were surprising. But I think it is unfair to criticize his WSOP play against Farha, it was obvious that Amir was playing to come in 1st and not playing to survive or finish in the top 3, ultimately he bluffed and got beat.....
