2nd hand of a tournament and everyones got about 1000 including me, and im delt 5c 5h. blinds are 10/20 and im first to act. I like raising pocket pairs and get it heads up with someone, so i throw out 100 with 1 caller and everyone else folds. flop comes 9c 7s js. the caller could have anything im assuming since 100 is only about 10% of their stack. i bet 200 to figure out where this person is at. and he quickly calls. next card is 8s, scary card. i check, and he quickly checks as well. next card is 6d giving me low end of a straight. if the caller had a 10 in his hand, i think he woulda bet after making a straight on the turn. so figuring he doesnt have a 10, i bet another 200. he quickly calls, and turns up As 5d, so we both split with 9 high straight. should i have bet on the turn with possible straight and flush on the board? i dont see how i could have put him on ace 5 with that kind of flop. but looking back i realize that im ahead the entire hand, was there any way i could have taken this pot before the river?

In my opinion, and im no Professional by any means. i wouldnt even play 55 in early position early in a NLHE tourney. But if you want to play, limping in is about all i'd do with that hand. Raising 10% of your stack preflop is suicide, then blasting another 20% of your stack into a missed flop is death. Wait for a better spot. You put in 30% of your stack with a pair of 5's!!!!!!!!!! Thats maniacal in my opinion. If you want to get aggressive with low pocket pairs, do so from late position.

LJH

Your posts today are really condesending and unecessary. Try being more constructive, or at least give reasons to back your point.

Posts like this one do nothing to help the poster, but do generally degrade this site, bringing it down to the level of the "other sites", which aren't much more than childish fighting and whining.

Being correct and constructive are two different things. You may be right in your assessments but you sure aren't constructive.

My general rule of thumb is to limp or call a small raise with low to mid pocket pair (2's-10's). They're such easy hands to play, if you make a set on the flop, you're golden, if you don't, get away from the hand. Raising EP with 5's is a bad play, especially that early, IMO.
