Hi, first time poster-

Can anyone tell me 1) Whether or not these programs are worth buying (I am a beginner), And 2) why would TTHE NOT have NL/PL/L options available? If it doesn't have these game types, what exactly are you plaing in TTHE??

Here's a link to the wilson explanation of the differences:

The fact that TTHE "does not include tournament play nor [sic] no-limit or pot-limit play" is what confuses me.

Thanks.

ah tournaments are either limit (with the limits going up with the blinds from time to time and the max raise being the big blind before turn and twice the big blind after), Pot Limit (max bet is the pot) or NL (you can bet your whole stack any time) - for tournament play you pay a one off buy-in fee (assuming no rebuys available which you can sometimes get in multi-table tournies) - you get say 1000 chips each and play with them to the death - on a table of 9-10 the top 3 will finish in the money - typical split on a $10 10 person table is 50 to winner 30 to 2nd and 20 to third -entry fee is $10 + $1 rake to casino...

now non-tournament poker you just sit down and play with your own cash - you don't have to leave unless you run out (and even then you can use credit card to get more)

they are also limit, PL or NL i understand (I only play tournies so far myself) - and although there are some micro-sites where you can literally wager cents at a time it is likely to be much more expensive in general to learn on normal cash tables (say 50c to $1 per bet) than in a $5 tourney situation (or in the $1-2 multi-table NL tournies you can enter on some sites).

TTHE only simulates cash poker not tourney play - there is a separate wilson program that does tournies but it isn't as well regarded as TTHE I understand....

hope that the above is helpful (and right :)
