| As I was watching some old poker videos last night I decided to try and spot some tells on players. I watched the whole thanxgiving day poker million, and watched paul wolfe bluff, and each time he did he turned his head away from his opponent and covered his face with his hand (kinda like leaning his head on his arm away from his opp.) Also ron rose in both foxwoods, and in reno when he makes big all in bluff's (I saw three times) he declares all in and doesnt move his chips in, just says all in and sits there. I think this maybe to not give away shaking or something... lol this one made me laugh, layne flack @ foxwoods, when he caught AA yawned when the flop came K J 3.. terrible acting but I got a kick out of it.. Does anyone else have any tells they spot on other players. | ||

| Funny you mention that. In the party poker million, there was a hand that cowboy caught the nut straight. To attempt a trap, he checked which is fine. However, when he checked, he immediately put enough to bet into his hand. Chip Jett was about to bet, but when he saw cowboy put the chips there, he probably saw a trap, so he just checked as well and called on the river. Had the cowboy not done that, he might have gotten an uber aggressive player to bet into him. In the times I've seen women play, Jennifer Harman seems to do this thing where she flips her hair when she has a good hand. Phil Gordon saw it and folded to her two pair in Aruba and people folded to her holding monsters at the showdown at the sands except that Dungeons and Dragons kid who had a hand himself(no offense to the Dungeons and Dragons community of course). However, I'm sure that is completely intentional and can sucker people who misread her. The funniest one I saw was at the WSOP 2003. Early in the tourney, Howard Lederer had pocket 10s I believe. In later position, there was this online player who was apparently an ex actor. He was holding pocket queens and reraised the Professor. Howard gave his trademark stare with his hand on his neck(he says that your pulse can be a tell). As he stared him down, the online player immediately zipped up his jacket and put his head in it. The ESPN announcers laughed their asses off and Howard calmly says, "it's ok, you can come out now." All I can think of at the moment. | ||

| I was out at Foxwoods scoping out the WPF they were holding in November. I saw the guy that zips himself up in his jacket. The funny thing is, he actually does it all the time. | ||

| I have the old WSOP videos. Those guys had no way to control their tells back then. There was no Mike Caro pointing them out in a book :) It is amazing the number of tells these guys had for WCP's who bought in for 10k each! In '73, the number that Puggy Pearson pulls on Jack Straus is amazing. Flipping his cards face up before he calls an all-in. That kind of angle is not allowed today, obviously, but to see their faces, just amazing... I think what impressed me the very most about the first ten years or so of the WSOP, is seeing the LACK of tells by one man, and one man only. He played the way we are encouraged to play today, and did a great job at it! Anyone guess who he was? Felicia :) My Poker Journal: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FeliciaLee | ||

| Nope. I don't think TJ started playing the WSOP until '77 or '78, and he wasn't at any final tables, hence he wasn't "on tape" back then. Good guess though! Felicia :) on 31. Dec 2003 10:21 Eman wrote: > TJ | ||

| Nope. I believe Doyle said he didn't do well in the early WSOP's. He couldn't adapt from cash play to tourney play, and tried to be over-aggressive. Doyle did attribute his later success to the guy I'm talking about though, he said he watched this guy, and adopted his style. So you're getting closer ;) Felicia :) My Poker Journal: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FeliciaLee | ||
