AA Beaten again.., Alex Ptek, 28. Dec 2003 18:05

I was playing heads up and was dealt AA. I bet about 4x BB and my opponent called. Flop came up A K 6 rainbow. I check. Opponent bets 2x BB, I double it. Opponent re-raises double MY bet. I am thinking he is holding KK, 66, or maybe AK or A6, but that would mean all 4 Aces are already out. Since I have all of these possibilities beaten, I re-raise all-in. He calls. He turns over 10 J. A queen hits on the turn giving him a straight, and the river comes up blank. I am still amazed at how he played this hand. Was this sheer luck, or should I have done anything differently?

Thanks,

No way you can fold the A set. You have the best possible hand at the time so not too much can be done.

He hits a 4-outer on the turn and you're asking if it's sheer luck? Pretty much!

Should you have done anything differently, you ask? Why would you need to? He was willing to gamble it up with you, so God bless 'em! I'd take that proposition any day of the week with top set against a gut-shot. Were you really low on chips - how much did he have to call when you moved all-in? Just curious. He apparently was trying to bully you out of the pot, didn't realize what he was up against (I suppose), and he got lucky. Tough break for you, well played.

lol... could you have done anything different??? WTF would you do different... you raised pre-flop... check raised the flop.. did everything in you power to make money while you have the nuts.... and untill the turn you did have the nuts.. nothing you can do! i had my aces cracked tonite in a NLHtourney... by A10! he flopped one 10... and turned another! and never did raise me! same guy cracked pocket aces again with A6 with a flush... and at another table a friend of mine got his aces cracked when he went all-in pre flop.. got one caller with KK... flop came KKx...

You should have folded on the flop. You can still get beat by a straight or flush and even if you make a full house, he might have quads.

/sarcasm off

The real answer is pretty self evident.

Nothing wrong with that. That's why we post bad beats here in the first place.
