| $50 NL at Party Poker. I have $99 stack. I'm BB with KK. Two call the blind. SB folds. I raise $4. One player raises to $8. The other caller folds. The raiser has $360 stack. But I'm new at the table so I don't know anything else about him. I raise to $14. He raises to $140. I call. Flop Turn and river don't help and he shows AA. Did I make a bad call? I'm fairly new to hold'em and online poker. I have folded KK before correctly .... but preflop seems pretty tough to fold KK. I had him on QQ and using his power to knock me out. | ||

| If you put him on QQ then going all in with your two kings looks good to me. But What made you put him on that particular hand though; I mean, being new to the table and all? | ||

| most players will not get away from KK if the guy stands up and yells "I have rockets" and push's all in. In your situation, I too would have re-raised, but when the original raiser makes it 4 to go for 10x your original raise, warning bells should go off in your head. I think he in a sense was inviting folds. | ||

| It is pretty tough to lay down KK pre-flop although there are situations, if you know your opponent well enough, that you can do so. This doesn't seem to be one of those times. We try to determine what our opponents have by their mannerism's, betting and information we have accumulated about them. Since you didn't have sufficient time to know anything substantial about him then I would suggest that you also didn't have any evidence to believe he had QQ - rather QQ was most likely wishful thinking. He was as likely to have been dealt AA as QQ and it might be argued that he was more likely to have AA because more people will go all-in with AA than QQ. Just be sure that you don't conclude what you hope for conclusions based on proper analysis. | ||

| Yeah, it's hard to lay down those KKs. I did it last night at a 5/10 NL game. A tricky aggressive player raises about 30 up front, I reraise to approx 100 and this player behind me goes in for almost a grand. She just joined the game so I had no read on her. Also, she had about as many chips as me, so I'd have to pretty much go all-in to call. I felt bad about just giving up my 100+ dollars, but I think the best I could hope for was a split. I guess AKs was possible, but still AA was the most likely hand. It's esp. hard to lay them down when you have a significant amount of chips out there. If I was the preflop raiser, and an A flops, it's easy as anything to get away from, but that third raise behind you when you have KKs is usually AA unless it's a somewhat loose player. Because unless they think you are loose, they would have to be afraid that you had them beat if they had something like QQs. However, shorthanded or against a loose player, I'm not laying down those KKs 99% of the time, unless a tight player moves in. | ||
