Time for the truth, IMHO if you can't beat on line poker, you have some serious leaks in your game. And why these players think they can beat a B&M game with a higher rake, bad beat drop and dealer tokes is beyond me. My guess is you are playing too many hands out of position, and not betting enough for value on the end. I play an equal amount of online and live action, and all the beats you get online happen live also. My strategy is to play tighter online than live, and game selection is key to winning. If you are a losing player you will know it sooner in online play, but my gut feeling is you will lose in live play also. So tighten up and look for leaks. This is not a flame just a friendly reminder to plug your leaks. Looking for feedback.

I play better in a B&M. In fact I only play SNG online because I just plain lose in ring games. I probably concentrate more in a B&M because it seems "real". This would point to a deficiency in my online play. Rather than fix it, I just chose not to play.

Well, this isn't a flame either. But I think you are wrong. The two are very different and you have focused on one aspect and decided that is all that matters. I can't play online anymore because I find it boring and I make moves.

So, sure, I make ill-advised plays because I am bored. Is that a leak? Sure. Does that mean I am a losing player live? Maybe. Or, there are reasons I don't play well in that environment. But the first rule of poker is "It depends."

Saying the games are identical and being a loser at one means you are a losing player is, IMHO, silly. If that's true, why are there books and articles and more written specifically for the vagaries of online play? It's because they are different.

You might as well say that ring games and tournament games are the same and winners at one and losers at another are losing players, because it's the same game (hold 'em) at both.

Rant over.

Tim, I CONSISTANTLY win $ in B&M's, I typically lose online.

Your outlook on these two very different playing fields is completely wrong. Think of this, when going to b&m I am geared toward the game, i think of how i'll play, what type of game i'm looking for, I turn into "poker player Frank", not just 'frank'. My mind is clear and I am focused on beating the game.

I agree that online games can be beaten consistantly (just not by me), but heres the thing Tim, I sit at my computer and I'm immediately in the action, head not clear enough, not focused enough, etc. Well, maybe I should rephrase, its not that I'm NOT ready to play, just that I'm better prepared when I get in the action at B&M.

I used to philosophize my online play as "I played certain cards in certain positions I'll win, it was just simple mathematics." But it doesnt seem to work out that way...you gotta know your players, look for the right tables, keep solid notes on many players, do research for tables that give better action (looser) than others. I read a book about online play and figured out that I'm just too darn lazy to work enough to beat the game. I play online for fun.
