Question folks...

I'm playing 2/5 PL HE. I'm in mid-late position, pick up pocket queens.

UTG makes it 15 to go, there's one caller before me. I raise it $50 making it $65 total. Everyone, including original raiser, folds, around to one last player who smooth calls the $50 more.

Flop is Q-3-5, no suits.

Dude bets $180 into me.

I've not been catching cards up to this point, and every time I would bet someone would come over the top of me. I was simply waiting for the right spot, and this appeared to be it.

I reraise the remainder of my stack, another $90. He calls, flips over 5-7.

Turn card is a 4 making him the straight and the board doesn't pair so it's good.

Did I play this incorrectly?

- J

CORRECTION: He had 6-7, not 5-7.

It may be just me, but I think about 90% of these story's are exaggerated, and 99% of the people that post arent looking for advice on how to play, they are just looking for sympathy.

Q 3 5 no suits, and your asking if you played it right by calling an all in bet with the nuts.... cmon thats just common sense

Im waiting for this story to be posted

Im in BB with AA, flop comes A A 7d a guy goes all in and I call, turn comes 8d, river 9d, he flips up J 10d for the runner runners str8 flush, should I have folded on the flop? or did I play this right?

i agree with the last post.... what could you have done differently?? gone all in pre flop?? not gonna make much money there! you made a big big bet pre flop and flopped the nuts... what are you gonna do?? guy got lucky.. such is life! bring more money.. and hope he does it again! hell pay you off at some point down the road! BTW... you had a SET not TRIPS... trips are when you hold Qx and the flop comes QQx... a set is when you hold QQ and the flop comes Qxx.... big difference! and trips and a set DO NOT suck! i love em'! i eat em up! wish i could get em' more often! the only time they suck is when someone else also has a set... but a higher one! now THAT sucks!

Completely agree with the above...haven't been to the casino in a while, but online, trips and sets are consistent, consistent winners. With so many loose callers at places like party poker--and with so many players not respecting a raise at the 1/2 or 2/4 or 3/6 tables at PP, I can only hope that the dealers will continue sending me those middle pocket pairs, and a few callers, to build the pot up when the set comes.

Hope the 3 of a kinds get better for you, but I'll take them any day of the week.

I was merely stating that he's asking whether he made the right move calling an all in bet with QQ on a Q35 flop..... I doubt he really wanted advice.

Actually, the small connector play wouldn't be so bad if he thought that the raiser was on AQ or a big pair that wasn't QQs. Some of the time the raiser might fold to a big bet, figuring he is up againt a set, and if called the bettor figures he is only about a 9 to 5 dog. In this case, against the nuts, however, he is a HUGE dog, but his play isn't as bad as it first appears as most of the time you aren't against top set.

You flopped top set into a raggedy looking board and then you ask if you played it incorrectly. Yeah, you played it bad because you lost. Does that make any sense. You played it fine and I would only hope that you knew you played it correctly also. Hence, It's your decisions that you make throughout the play of a hand that matter most, not whether or not you win that particular hand.

No you played it right, you will win that one a lot more times than you lose. Even if he makes his str8, you will redraw to the full house on him over a third of times he makes it. Most of the time your hand will just hold up without improvement, and some of the time he outdraws you, you outdraw him right back.

You NEED that guy in your game!
