| Merry Xmas all. I just lost my entire Party bankroll on the two worst beats I have taken in quite some time. And they happened within a half hour of each other. 1. I am dealt JJ on the button. A few limpers, I make a $3 raise and get 2 callers, one of who is a total maniac fish. I get a perfect flop - T63 rainbow. Caller to my right bets $3 I raise to $15 and maniac calls, so does first bettor. Turn is a blank, but another heart suit. Better checks and I figure I can trap the maniac with a check. He doesnt disappoint and goes allin!! I quickly call as does the other player. River is a heart (naturally) and he turns over Kh6h. Unreal. 2. I am dealt A8 in the BB and take the free ride. 5 limpers. Flop comes A86 rainbow. Perfect. I bet out $3 and get 2 callers. Great. Turn is a blank but another diamond. Uh oh (sound familiar?). I bet out $15 and get re-raised allin. Wow. I figure someone is on AdKd and another Axs on the other. I still think I have the best hand, so I call. I was right too. But the river was another diamond. The allin raiser had 6d8d and made the runner runner flush. This might cause me to quit playing altogether | ||

| What he did in hand 1 wasn't out of reason. He had a pair of 6's and a flush draw. Do you have Wilson's "Turbo Texas Holdem" program? It's a great tool. | ||

| He only had a backdoor flush draw. You would call a $15 raise cold with second pair, an overcard and a backdoor flush draw? | ||

| "This might cause me to quit playing all together." ...Well then perhaps you should. Poker is not for everyone, nor, is everyone cut out for poker. If you can't handle losing or you can't or do not want to see that, even if your decisions on those two particular hands were 100% correct and your "opponents" calls were idiotic, then perhaps you shouldn't be playing poker. Sorry, but bad beats and tough beats happen, and if you don't want your opponents to be calling your hefty bets with inferior holdings to yours....then gosh dammit mroban, what *do* you want?? So you lost what ever amount you had in your account. Big deal. It happens to mostly everyone. But some of the constructive things you can do for yourself is to ask yourself, "should" I put more money into that account. Am I tough enough to play poker. Am I better than the guys I'm playing with. Should I even be playing No Limit holdem with my bankroll. The list goes on. But in my opinion mroban, you better have the proper bankroll if you're going to be playing No Limit, and you also better make sure that the guys you're playing against are MUCH worse than you are. (Or your new bankroll, if you decide to put more money into your account), will go "bye-bye" again. (oh yeah, I forgot, they WERE bad players in your game and you STILL lost). Well, that's poker! Get used to it! All you should concern yourself with is YOUR choices/decisions, not theirs. Also, Be honest with *yourself* because no matter what sugar-coated BS I could give you would mean a thing. You need to do some serious thinking AWAY from the tables so you can possibly and (more likely) see things clearly. And you're going to need to take a long break to do it too. But so what. Maybe you'll come back stronger because of it. Is that so bad? I don't think so. ...And come in from off of that ledge....it's cold out there!! Flakes | ||

| Hey Flakes: Thanks for the tough love. Seriously though, I was kidding about quitting poker. But it was good to read your post. Btw, my online bankroll is minuscule and whatever I lose online (or win) is essentially meaningless in my life. I just hate losing and yes, its a big part of the game. I can handle it just fine. Just frustrated. | ||

| Also Flakes, I rarely play at Party. I have won over $1000 in past few months playing NL on UB. So I am just acting out and whining. These are two hands that (at least from an odds perspective) should have tripled my Party bankroll. | ||

| I really don't like the JJ check on the turn. J's in this situation are still a very vulnerable hand, and since your player is a maniac, and you figure to have the best hand at the point... why not give him the option of making a mistake as a maniac and calling an all in bet? At this pot the pot is already $40 bucks, and should be large enough that you're fine with taking the pot down right there if he folds. In all liklihood the player has top pair, and an overcard A10-Q-10. So any card A-Q or any card with the board pairing up could potentially and likely hurt you, so giving a free card here is dangerous. The result likely would have been the same... since he probably would have called, but he wouldn't have gotten there for free, and would have gotten there making a mistake. | ||

No matter how bad the beats were, you basically guaranteed the loss of your money by putting yourself in that situation. Lesson learned (hopefully), back to the small tables for you... Good luck, ReMMy | ||
