Heading to Atlantic City!!, Wren, 24. Dec 2003 07:48

| Hi all! Stdioh and I have planned a last-minute trip to Atlantic City over the holidays. We're heading down on Saturday (the 27th) and staying for 3 nights. Our plan is to play poker for the majority of our time there (duhh!), but also eat out at least once at a nice restaurant, and possibly do some other "touristy" stuff. Anyhoo, just wondering if anyone else on here plans to be down there during that time? It would be great to meet up with some fellow UPFers! Also - Stdioh and I haven't been there before, so any suggestions, ideas, tips, etc. anyone might have would be appreciated! Thanx guys, and hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Wren | ||

| Merry Xmas This is a great time of year for an AC trip. Granted its not exactly beach weather, but the town is a lot more intimate this time of year. As far as poker action goes, in my opinion, you have three choices, and fortunately you'll have time to check them all out if you wish. 1. Borgata- The newest and flashiest of AC casinos. Their poker room is by far as nice and as plush as they come. You will find a nice selection of holdem and stud games. They are now, finally, spreading tournaments monday through Friday. Tourneys are all holdem alternating between limit and no limit each day. Buy ins range from $20-100 with rebuys for the first 3 rounds and one add on. 2. Taj Majal- The Taj is still the "palace" for AC poker. They have, by far, the biggest and most impressive room. Their spread of games is second to none (anywhere), and I've never had to wait for a table. My personal favorite is the 2-4 omaha 8 with a 1/2 kill. 3. Tropicana- The Trop is more of an old school poker experience. The room is dimly lit and the chips and the floor are kinda dirty. They have a pretty good spread, though and a lot of players swear by it. They, too, spread daily tournaments. Some days are 7 stud others holdem. The tourney schedule is available on their website. 4. Sands- I haven't played there yet, but they did host a major tournament recently which aired on fox sports. It may be worth checking out. 5. Bally's Park Place- Don't waste your time. Wherever you guys play, Have fun and good luck. If I happen to be down there I look for Stdioh as his picture is on the bio section. | ||

| By the way, if you like Italian food, try Angelos Fairmount Tavern. For an amazing cheesteak go to to White House. And for a truly unique AC experience, there is none better than pizza and pasta at Tony's Baltimore Grill. The concierge or any local can probably point you in the right direction. | ||

Because of the game selection and number of tables, the Taj is usually pretty crowded in my experience. However, it's not an endless wait for the most part... though I don't know how it is on a holiday (haven't been to a casino on a holiday in a long time) > 3. However, the Trop has waitresses that can bring food to the table (not GREAT food, mind you, but you can pay for it with your poker comps AND eat while you play!). >They, too, spread daily > tournaments. Some days are 7 stud others holdem. They usually don't have a Saturday tournament, but Sundays they are the only casino in town to regularly host a tournament- a low buy-in ($50 +10, I think) tournament of 7stud8. However, check with the room to make sure it's running this weekend. > 4. Sands- I haven't played there yet, but they did host a major tournament recently > which aired on fox sports. It may be worth checking out. Unless they've expanded, their regular poker room is small. I haven't been there in a few years, it may have changed with the "Showdown at the Sands" tourney. > > 5. Bally's Park Place- Don't waste your time. Is the room even still open? A few others (Harrah's, maybe Hilton unless they closed it) have small rooms, but the "Big 3" are your best bets. You'll have to drive from one to the other (do NOT walk to the Borgata from the boardwalk! Being on the boardwalk at night is usually not too bad.)

| Trop is OK...cheap poker rate for rooms. Borgata is nicest I think and has a very competitive poker rate for the rooms there as well. As for the Sands, don't waste the gas or cab fare. I was there for the Sand's tourney and the poker room was vacant most of the time. Very small room, and the dealers were not very good at all. | ||

| Thanks for the advice guys. If anybody is looking for me there, I'll be looking like this: http://www.0wned.org/~dook/poker.jpg Yes, I'll be wearing that hat and those glasses and some hawaiian shirt, and I should have a stack of cheques like that in front of me. *snark* So I hope to see anybody from the board down there. | ||
