My first Omaha8 tourney online!, Eman, 24. Dec 2003 07:47

I just started playing omaha8 limit games of .50/1 1/2 and 2/4 and have done well mainly because of the loose tables and my tight game. I dont feel comfortable enough to enter pots with marginal hands. I decided to play in a cheap $5 Pot Limit Omaha8 tourney on UB last night with about 200 players. Top 19 paid. I wasnt too concerned about placing in the money, just wanted some experience. I have never played pot limit omaha only limit.
Here are some plays that i need critisism on. I was playing extremely tight. I didnt get any decent starting hand in the first hour.

I lost a pretty big pot with A356 single suited with the A, I made the nut flush and had the nut low on the turn, but got bricked on the river and someone else made a fullboat. UGH...im down to about 500.

Folded to me preflop and im on the Button with AA78 single suited. I raise the pot and the BB comes over the top and bets the pot at me. If I play this hand itll be for almost my whole stack, So i reraise the pot and all in. Was this stupid? He shows KK23 double suited. no low came and i win.

KK46 double suited. I have about 1000 in chips. 4 limpers to me and im on the cutoff, I limp as well (should i raise, limp or fold, i have no clue).
Flop comes K 9 A with the 9 and A of my suite for a nut flush draw.
Theres a small bet and a raise if front of me, i bet the pot. My thinking I doubt anyone has AA, figured i have top set with a nut flush draw. Didnt want Low players drawing for cheap. Is the pot bet too high? sould i call, raise less, fold? i dont know. I had one caller.
Turn was a 4 completing my nut flush, bet the other player all in. Figuring he has a low draw and maybe A9 or something like that.
He calls and has 9923. River is a 10 and i take down the whole pot.

Later after the first break. I have about 1800 in chips, right around the average, with about 90 players left. I get dealt AA26 single suited. Im UTG and raise preflop. Is that a good play or not? again i have no clue?. I get two callers.
Flop is K 3 8, with a flush draw on board, not mine.
Im first to act and bet about 200 into a 1000 pot. Again? what should i do? i get called in both spots.
Turn is a 6, no flush yet. I have the nut low. How much should i bet out? i dont know? I wanted to bet the pot to give incorrect odds for any type of draw with that ragged board, there is no made hand yet for high. Is that smart thinking? I dont know? i bet out 500 and get called in one spot the river is an ugly 2 and I lose the whole pot!! ugh.. !!!

Later on im dealt AA10J in the BB single suited. I have about 700 in chips and close to last place. Blinds were 150/300. I know I only have a high hand. but i was Allin preflop and ended up losing.

I ended up in 30 something place...

is my thinking and plays correct. I know these were just a few examples. but any any thoughts and comments appreciated.

Man oh man, I admire both your bravery to wander into a game you dont know and your ability to admit the fact that you are lost. I mean that sincerely. I have only played play money NL Omaha and really have no idea what Im doing either. Based on all of your past posts that Ive read over the past 4 months or so, theres no doubt in my mind that you will figure it out soon and are probably already as good as half the guys playing. I wouldnt mind trying it out also and I think by playing tight I would at least break even on the low limit tables. My problem is I wouldnt be sure how tight is tight.
