PokerTracker v. PokerStat, starstealer, 23. Dec 2003 13:01

I know that most of the advocates here say PokerTracker for stat tracking. I've never used it and I plan on looking at it because while I was impressed with PokerStat, it doesn't have much functionality for Omaha8 and that's my primary game.

First of all, does PokerTracker have import capability for PokerStars hand histories? (Obviously if they don't, it won't be useful to me)

Secondly, how are the Omaha8 tools it provides? In essence PokerStat had the ability to store the omaha8 hands, but you almost have to look at them in raw format - the tools that are available in the hold'em section of the program are simply unavailable...

If PokerTracker can handle Omaha8, and PokerStars, and has a front end I can work with, I'll pick it up. Also, does anyone know what PokerTracker uses as a back-end to store the data. I'm a database guy and was disappointed that I couldn't write my own queries against the PokerStat database because it is not just a standard Access (or other db type) database.

Lastly, I guess I'm wondering if anyone has a stat tracker that is just in a regular db (I'd take Oracle or even DB2 if that's all I had access to...).

Thanks
dave

I've tried Ptracker, and I believe it only works for holdem. I would suggest that if you have the know how, you could design something better as I didn't particularly care for the interface, or functionality of either.

I'm actually looking into it. I'm a database guy at a software company. I've been talking with a software engineer to at least design something I can use. We're talking lightly about the possibility of making it something to make available to others.

I probably wouldn't add the functionality to directly interact with the client software, just with imported hand histories, but I am very interested in getting Holdem, Omaha, Omaha8, Stud and Stud8 into it.

Right now, the database has been created and we're working on the importing stuff.

If anyone has some suggestions on what to include - I'll definitely be looking at the two interfaces and seeing what I feel is missing from it.

Thanks in advance.

One of the biggest functional problems with pt is the inability to change screen size. I'd also like to be able to make more detailed queries.

I'd be happy to help test
