Ethics of looking at someone else's cards, blisterfoot, 22. Dec 2003 21:26 | ||

| If someone isn't protecting their cards properly and you look at them, that is obviously unsportsmanlike. But is it technically cheating/against the rules? e.g. if you catch someone trying to look at your cards, do you have the "right" to be pissed off or even tell casino management if it is a recurring problem? obviously it is your responsibility to protect your own cards, but if someone else is actively trying to look, is that cheating? is it as bad as collusion or other types of cheating? or is it just "part of the game"? | ||

| you can not be expected to shut your eyes if someone is showing you his/her cards, but you do have an unfair advantage over him/her, as well as the other players. what i usually do is quietly remind him/her to guard his hand so that i can not see. now, if someone is actively trying to see me cards (by craning his/her neck, leaning over, standing behind me, etc), i speak up. but, realistically, a player is going to have to be some kind of contortionist to see my hole cards. i darn well protect them! kennycatkiller | ||

| I would do exactly what you would do, kenny. I don't want the unfair advantage either. If someone trys to take a peak at MY cards, (which has been a rare occurence and it's also going to be pretty tough to do), then I will turn to him/her and say, "I didn't realize we were sweating this one together"!! 4P- | ||

| BLISTERFOOT, WHY NOT TELL THE PLAYER HE IS SHOWING HIS CARDS, BUT IT IS NOT UNETHICAL NOT TO TELL HIM NOR IS IT UNETHICAL TO LOOK IF HE IS SLOPPY WITH HIS CARDS. LJH | ||
