SNG DID I play this correct, desi, 22. Dec 2003 12:38

I just need to hear some opinions on this. I'm in a SNG at UB this weekend. Down to 6 people. Mostly in these SNG's I do nothing for about 1/2 hour or until we are down to 5. Play only strong hand. Here goes:

I'm in late position (1 off the button) and I get AA. All but SB and BB have folded so I raise the pot to 300 in hopes of getting some action. The SB raises another 100 and the BB folds. When I gets to me I go 'all in' and (to my surprise) the SB goes all in right away.

We turn over and I'm AA up against KJs. I'm pretty pumped. Flop comes K, 5, J and I am miffed. The Turn and the River are meaningless and I'm done.

Thoughts on if I played this wrong?

I think your opponent was wrong in his play, therefore, would have me baffled. Why pop back for even odds with King-Jack?...then call an all-in?

You say you raised TO 300. Sounds like a minimal raise. On this premise, this opens up a lot more re-raise hands (possibly your intent) than if you raised it BY 300 and were re-raised.
His $100 pop doesn't tell me anything except he wants to know if you're really in the hand.

Regardless of any of this, you got in pre-flop with AA, and had the opportunity to eliminate a player that took the bait. What else do you want?

IMHO, desi good, opponent bad.

My mistake. This beat has me very upset. I did not raise TO $300, I raised $300. Pretty substantial raise ( about 2x pot) given the stakes. I realize that this was not a high-stakes SNG but beats like this gnaw at me if I think that I did not play it correctly.

I might have gone 'all-in' right off the bat?

NO NO!!!! you played it very well! you got called by KJ... suited or not its crap! i fold stuff like that early position with no raises whatsoever! (in live games depending on the game) when you have a hand like AA you have not a care in the world what the idiot has!you've got the nuts at that point, there fore you WANT him to call! in fact... i would have raised it less! even the minimum! but your first reaction was great! good instinct on your part! dont doubt that play!
Dezi good.... oponent veeeeery bad! lol

If you raised $300, then he cant raise another $100. His raise has to be at least as much as yours.
