This weekend I tried my first tournament on-line, hold'em no limit. Since in never played no limit before, I spent the previous night playing no limit with play money, getting to know the game. No limit is definitely more intriguing to me now than limt, but I think I will take it slowly. I had also read a few books on tournament play and how it differs from ring games. This was my first tournament and had reasonable expectations. However, the first hour went spectacular. In the first few hand some went all in and lost out right with hands like Q/T,
A/9 even one with 9/5 suited. I had A/A three times and my chips skyrocketed. Some went all in heads up with me both of us having the same pair but their low kickers killed them. By the end of the hour I was second place in chips, way beyond any of my expectations. The second hour was much less spectacular. The main reason was I became impatient. Tried to force thing. Then played as if I was in a ring game. The larger blinds started to come into effect and even though I knew this from reading the tournament books, seem to dissolve as I became more engrossed with the hands. Lastly, what finally killed me, I went all in on a hand that others were already going in. If I hadn't my standing probably would have gone up a few more notches. As it was I finished 37th out of 158. For my first tournament, not, bad, but...
