| Hi all, I've been running some queries on my poker tracker database using Microsoft access to generate some statistics that poker tracker does not calculate. Below are the distribution of winning hands for all of the hands that went to a showdown. All of these hands are from 5/10 tables on party poker. Total hands that went to a showdown: 16,132 High card: 206 (1.28%) One pair: 4248 (26.33%) Two pair: 5053 (31.32%) 3 of a kind: 1797 (11.14%) Straight: 1708 (10.59%) Flush: 1506 (9.34%) Full House: 1440 (8.93%) 4 of a kind: 149 (0.92%) Straight flush: 20 (0.155%) Royal flush: 5 (0.031%) I don't know what, if anything, we can learn from these numbers; I was just tinkering around and noticed it would be easy to calculate this stuff so I did. Happy holidays, Chris | ||

| A lot of people think that a measly one pair won't win many pots -- and that two pair is easily beaten. Clearly this is not the case. What this tells me is that if you're holding top pair or top two pair you need to play aggressively until you know you're beat. Giving up on these made hands too often could prove to be costly. In addition, bluffing on the river in LLHE (suprise, suprise) is not a smart move. | ||

| What you can learn is that one pair and two pair are the bread and butter of hold'em ... it is important to play your one pair and two pair hands well. You can also see that calling somebody down with the nut f_ck all - AK on a board of QJ752 is very very rarely going to pan out - especially since they are actually betting the hand. You have to excuse the flush and straight stats a big because that'll be including hands where players make a flush or straight using a single card when they are on big draws, etc. For instance the player with KQ on a flop of TJQ who ends up making a straight doesn't carry the same weight as a "legitimate" straight. Basically, it should show you that AA is a golden god, since it beats every no-pair, pair, and two-pair-with-a-paired-board out there completely unaided. | ||
