A Hold'em Freezeout and a "Dead" Hand?, FeliciaLee, 19. Dec 2003 22:01 | ||

| Wednesday, December 10, 2003 Wednesday night was the $100 HE freezeout. I like the tourney, but there is no added prize money anymore, and it seems like the participants are slowly dwindling. This week we only got 17. We lucked out, to have a couple there who had never played poker in their lives. They had seen the WPT tournaments, and wanted to participate in a tournament themselves. Bonus! I was rocking and rolling in the first hour. My 88 flopped a set, and I got paid off all the way. Twice I had AJ. Both times I hit, once I hit the ace, but no one had a thing. The other time both the ace and jack hit. I wasn't even called to the river. I started the second hour (the no-limit portion of the tourney), with a good catch. The flop was all clubs, my TT contained a club, plus the board was rags, so I won a big pot. No one called the flop bet. Then I made my big error. Doesn't that always happen? We were down to the final seven, when I was dealt AQo. I was in the SB, and thought I would be cute and try to trap the BB, since only the blinds were in the pot. The flop came down Q89. I had the BB outchipped by 400, but I knew I was in trouble when she called my bet and went all-in. The BB had flopped the straight. Yep! The predator became the prey. I knew I would be all-in my next BB. I was dealt trash, so decided to take my chances in the blind. My BB was 63o, ugh! Someone raised BTF with 44. The dealer misunderstood my all-in, and turned the 44 face down, trying to scoop it into the muck, while laying the deck down in a fan. He pushed the chips to the raiser. All of this time I was yelling and screaming for him to stop, but he had some sort of accident a while back, and can't really hear. Finally I started waving my arms, and he understood that he'd made a mistake. Now, if I were an angleshooter, I guess I could have had the hand declared dead and started all over again. I could have had the raiser's mucked hand declared dead, and gotten the pot. I've seen others do it, especially with this particular dealer. Being the person I am, I allowed him to pick the deck off the muck, declare the raiser's hand "live" and start again. I still had my 63o in front of me. Of course, I got no help, but I am fair. No, the raiser didn't bother to thank me (I think he was a newbie, but he played pretty well). I was out at 6th, with only the top four being paid. I feel good about my decision. I had a last longer bet with both Darren and Larry for $1.00. LOL, I had to pay both of them off! I pick the most volatile of players to make the bet with, and both of them outlast me! As a matter of fact, they made a deal when it was down to those two. So much for my last longer bets! Maybe I should offer to back them, instead! LOL! Felicia :) | ||
