Question about exposed cards, blisterfoot, 19. Dec 2003 12:29

If the dealer accidently exposes a card, he/she shows it to e1 at the table--e1 has the "right" to see the card. Does that same principle apply when a player exposes his cards, either accidentally or on purpose? These are the scenarios I'm thinking of:

1) A player accidentally exposes one of his cards, and a few players at the table see it. Do the other players at the table have the "right" to ask to see it also? (I don't really mean the right to ASK, but the right to actually SEE it)

2) At the end of the hand at the showdown, a player in the 1 or 10 seat shows his/her cards, but a player at the other end of the table can't see them, or doesn't get a chance to see them before the dealer scoops them up. Does that player have the "right" to ask the dealer to show him the cards?

Given the fast pace of B&M games and the number of players often in at the showdown in low-limit games, this last issue often comes up--you just don't get a chance to see e1's cards before the dealer scoops them up. Do I have the "right" to call time until I've had a chance to see what e1 had? I know that would be incredibly annoying and disruptive if I did that on a regular basis, but do I technically have that right?

Thanks e1

Yes. You have the right to see them. The rulke is "Show 1, show all", so if the guy in the one seat flashes the guy in #2 before he folds, you have every right to ask what he folded.

My only caution would be that if you are a big favorite in a game of fish, then you might not want to ask. It might piss off others at the table and make them play better/tougher against you. I usually will try to catch some of the oncversation between the two players and ask a question like "Did you have a Jack?" with a smile and most of the time, they will tell you.

But, you definitely have the right to ask if anyone else has seen the cards.

Thanks all, that is good to know. This is probably a silly follow-up question, but just want to make sure I get it:

Player A folds. Player B flashes his cards to Player A and then mucks them. So you're saying I DO have the right to see Player B's cards, since he showed them to Playyer A. But is it safe to assume that I don't have that right until I've also folded? i.e. if I'm still in the hand, I can't demand to see B's cards just because he showed him to A before mucking, right? But after the hand is over, I could ask to see them?

Doesn't matter if the person being shown the cards is in the hand or not, if a player exposes them everyone has the right to see them. In situations like the one you described though, it is uncommon and often ill-advised to make the demand to see those cards, assuming noone currently in the hand saw them.
