| Let me start by saying that I track my poker play religously and have done very well over the last couple of years and have done very well until late. Over the last 7 weeks I've only had 3 winning sessions (and I play 5 to 6 sessions a week.) Its not that I have been playing bad, although I have had a lot of sessions where I wasn't getting any good starting hands and felt like the pre-flop folderama guy, its just that my hands come in second best alot lately. IE...I flopped broadway and lost a $500 + pot when the board paired and the guy caught quads...I flopped the nut flush and the turn and river put trip 7's giving my opponent a boat...I flopped top set and lost to a bigger set turn or river 3 times in an hour... I don't mean to sound like a broken down old player here but I feel that I need to get help from others that have went through similar streaks of bad runs and figure out how to break the cycle. I've examined and re-examined my play and although I have found a couple of leaks that I'm working on I haven't found nothing much more then seriously bad luck of getting out drawn (and it's not that my opponents are playing bad or even outside of the odds) but I can't make a hand hold up. Anyone have any advice as to how to break this cycle? | ||

| After going over your play and analyzing your game, you have found some leaks in your game, correct? Well even though the leaks may seem minor, it may be just enough to change your winning sessions into a losing one. Also, sometimes players get sloppy after awhile (that does happen) and a part of their game slips. Perhaps you're not focusing enough - that can add to it as well. But if you can spot the leaks and correct them, you'll probably start to show better results again. If it's really bothering you to the point where you may not be able to play your best game right now, then take a break. But seeing that you have done some analyzing there, I say, jump right back in IF you are able to play with confidence and not worry if your next session is going to be a winning one. (because again, that may affect how you play). Players also run bad. That happens. But I always think that it's smart to be objectively honest with yourself, as well. Keep in mind, you must always be analyzing and re-analyzing your game. Also, you should only be playing against opponents who have less skills and edges than you have, as well. So I would also focus more on my game/table selection and *make sure* that the game is the right one for me to sit down in. Don't be afraid to step down a limit or two either. Just some thoughts. | If it's really bad luck and not bad play, I don't think there is a whole lot you can do about it. Stop playing for a few days if you can. Take a break. I am going through a similar thing right now with my online play. Although I only play very low limit games online, I understand your frustration. Sometimes the cards simply won't fall right for you and it seems like everyone else is catching miracles to beat every hand you make. Eventually, things should even back out. SpaceAce | ||
