| There was an article in the latest Card Player magazine about the need to constantly learn new things about the game. This is one of my favorite topics in life, and really enjoyed the article. So, while playing 3-6 at Commerce on Wednesday night, I decided to learn at least one new thing. What did I learn? THERE ARE SOME CRANKY OLD MEN AT COMMERCE Damn! I'm in Seat 1 and a real regular is in #2. He shows me his cards all night, and continues to analyze every player at the table ad nauseam. He's easier to read than Fun With Dick & Jane. I get Q-4 in the BB, get a free flop, and end up hitting a full house. He praises me up and down for an adventurous play. Later, some other local cranky guy on the button calls his EP raise with K-Qs and winds up hitting the straight on the turn and taking down a nice pot. This old guy just won't shut up about how bad the play is here. Finally, I've had enough and decide I want to be the one to bust him just so he will will leave the table and stop yelling in my ear. I'm on the button with Q-Jh and he's in the SB. He makes it 2 bets and 4 of us call. I get an open ended straight draw on the flop and just call his flop bet because I'm getting great odds. Turn makes my straight, so I smooth call again due to the lack of a flush draw. River is a blank, and after he makes it 4 bets on the river, I show him the nut straight, and he jams his cards at me (set of 9's) and screams as he's walking away. The other thing I learned: I love busting cranky old men. I know it's the Holiday Season, and good will toward men is supposed to pervade our thoughts, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it.
