I'm finally getting out to the local casino, but need some advice.
How much do I want to start with in a $2/4 game and how much do I need, minimum, in my pocket to combat those bad losses, etc.

Any other advice I'm going to NEED to know would also be appreciated. Thanks so much!!

for one sit down session i would suggest 100 buyin with 50 in reserve if you drop below 50 *assuming your still a favorite to make money*
if this is gonna be a long all day type thing where you take a meal break *regardless of winning or losing* and your idea is to just play at a live B&M double that to $300

be willing to chit chat *not saying nonstop just be willing to talk/friendly*

watch the action and bet in turn *dont fold unless bet into*

protect your hand at all times *old silver dollar works great for this* if your hand touches the muck before your pushed the chips your hand is dead and someone else gets the pot.

have fun!!!!

I DISAGREE about "dont fold unless bet into" I check out all the time. There is no rule against it so why not do it... it speeds the game up and lets me study the players in the game. Feel free to check out, its part of the game!!! And remember,

Checking out unless you are 1st to act is very bad poker etiquette. It gives people who act after you an unfair advantage at the table knowing there is one less hand to worry about. So play the way that shows you have some class and respect for your fellow players.

No, checking out is a bad idea.

1- If you are not first to act, it's unfair to those ahead of you and benefits those behind you.

2- If it gets checked around, you might make a miracle draw on a free card! NEVER willingly give up free cards when you are behind.

I can't tell you how many miracle draws I caught to take down small pots because the table let me catch for free by checking around when I would have folded to a bet.

Hi I Don't Tip.....FYI, You can't just "check out" any time you'd like unless you're playing online where it's okay to be rude and to not care about the other players in your game. If you made a continuous habit of doing that in a live cardroom, your sorry little butt would be thrown out.

What the hell ever happened to poker etiquette, or do you think that it doesn't pertain to you? I hope you only play online, I really do. Unfortunately though, you're learning very poor habits in the process.
