Hello,
I am wanting to play in the Cajun Poker Classic in New Orleans in Jan 04'. I know more than likely I am dead money, but can anyone tell things that will make my trip more enjoyable. Stuff like what I should take for a poker trip
I know I sound like a tourist or a maniac but I am not, no 72o calls for me. This will probable the only B&M tournament I will play in so I want to know as much as I can about going on a big poker adventure. Thank You

Well, first off have fun!

Secondly, stay calm. For your first B & M tourney your going to be excited, nervous, distracted, and generally flustered so be very conservative during this initial period. It can be very easy to make bad decisions during this time, and a couple of bad moves can cripple you. After a period of time the adrenaline with wind down and your brain will start working normally again. I would caution you against playing anything other than your ultra premium hands (AA-QQ, and AK) until you settle down.

After that play a tight, aggressive game and take advantage of position. I would say most times you should either raise or fold, unless you have the opportunity to see a family pot with suited connectors or Axs. If some has called or raised infront of you, it will take a better hand to call that you might play if you were the first person to bet. When in doubt folding is probably your best option.

I don't know what type of tourney experience you have, but it woudl definately help you to play a few tourneys online if you haven't already. Tourney's are very different than ring games, especially since you will most likely be playing No Limit. (the advice above is assuming you are playing NL) Good luck and let us know how you do.

Lee
