The survival % of AA on a full handed table is wel-known, what are the odds for QQ (or KK) pre-flop against 9 random hands? Thanks...Gen

from the odds section below it says about 19% chance an ace and 2 other cards will come *not including a king* when you have KK

Rule #1 of Poker
Circumstances alter cases
Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1

according to the chart in the back of Ken Warren's book, 10-handed where everyone plays to the river, AA will win 34% of the time, KK 30%, and QQ 26%

Thanks... hmmm, I didn't think they would be so close, given the huge difference between QQ vs KK, etc. I guess the odds of both being dealt at a full table are small.

They have to be close. If AA would win the hand then why wouldn't KK? Only on the boards that bring an ace and put an ace in a player's hand. Likewise, any board that KK can win on, QQ can win on so long as there isn't a king on the board and a king in somebody's hand. Then you get all the wonderful situations with 4-flush boards, etc, etc.

What makes QQ so terrible compared to AA isn't that it wins that much less often. It is that it is hard to play when overcards hit the board and thus it is easy to either throw away the hand when it will win or throw good money into the hand when it is destined to lose.

It is also a lot easier to draw to your 2-outer with AA, thinking your hand good unassisted and get there than with QQ. When you're holding QQ and the board is A52 and there is a bet and a raise in front of you, it is easy to chuck it. When you're holding AA and the board is 7JQ and there is a bet and a raise in front of you, it is hard to throw the hand. AA can always hope to pair the 7 and stymie JQ, &c, &c ... thus AA gets played to the river much more often than QQ and so in real life it tends to win more pots too. QQ does nicely if you commit to always play it all the way, but that just isn't a practical undertaking.

Thanks for the answer. I guess I was surprised they were so close because AA is such a huge favorite over QQ...
