| Thursday, December 4, 2003 Boy, am I running bad or what? No cashing in a long time. Unfortunately, the player I'm backing isn't cashing either! Double ick. Of course this is to be expected. I just accept tournament variance for what it is, shrug it off, and go home. I had the most awesome table tonight. The players were all seniors, and the nicest bunch around. We joked, we laughed, we had a great time, win or lose. Then Doug moved me, lol. My next table wasn't so hot. The people were nice, and I won a lot of chips, but the family-friendly feeling was not there. Lenny was moaning and groaning about every missed draw, every hand sucked-out. I told the girl next to him that she had my permission to smack him a good one. Hehe! I managed to increase my 100 chips to over 400 by the break. I was hitting, and hard. Naturally, after the break, with my 900 chips (I got the add-on of 500 chips for $20), I lost it all, lol. I split a hand, quartered a hand, then managed to lose an all-in with a low hand, A37K double suited, against an all-high hand. C'est la vie. That there is Omerhaw! Glenn managed to severely get me PO'd when I found out that he hadn't gone to the grocery store, Walmart and the gas station like he'd promised, while I was playing in the tourney. Since he quit poker, he voluteered to go get us some much needed supplies. He showed up at 9:30pm, stating that instead of running errands, he had gone to the Riverside and played a positive-expectation video poker machine. Grrrr! I finally figured out how to join the mailing list of the WPDG. For those of you who don't have a clue what I'm talking about, the WPDG, is the Wednesday Poker Discussion Group. I will give you a bit of history, from what I know (this may not be 100% accurate, but I'm sure I have the jist of it). When they allowed poker in Atlantic City, two players noticed each other, and admired each other's tight, aggressive approach to poker. They decided to get to know each other. After playing, they would meet in the coffee shop and talk poker. Those two players were Dr. Al Shoonmaker and Dave Adams. Later, they were joined by other players and decided to make this discussion a weekly event. Things sort of fell apart when Dr. Al had to move out west due to complications from diabetes (sound familiar?), and Dave left AC. Fortunately, Dr. Al was able to spot some good players in Vegas, and soon started another poker discussion group, which eventually became the WPDG. Now it is huge. I have never, ever made a live meeting. It seems like I plan too many things when I go to Vegas. Sometimes I go around holidays, when no one is really planning much for the WPDG. Sometimes Dr. Al is out of town and I decide not to go. One time I was involved in a tournament, late, and ended up chopping the thing, thus missing the meeting. I'm a dope. Anyway, I found out this week that not only does the WPDG meet every Wednesday, but now they have an online chat forum, as well. I finally got registered, and now I am on that forum, in addition to the other dozens of poker forums that I belong to (lol, I'm a junkie). I must say that the WPDG is the friendliest, and most refreshing group I've gotten to know in a long, long time! It has the family feel of VP, with the educated feel of 2+2. The people are genuinely warm and supportive. Howard Burroughs writes the most interesting and fun prose of any poker writer I've read since Tommy Angelo. The group is terrific!!! I hope it stays that way! Felicia :) | ||
