| Sorry for the long post, but I had an atrocious night last night and most of it was attributed to these three hands, all startlingly similar: 1. Actually, the first time, I had raised from the blind preflop with AK and got two callers. The flop came A55. Figuring the odds of him having 55 was remote, I bet the pot and was reraised. I called. Next two cards were blanks. I checked and called all the way down (he was an inexperienced player and was not making pot sized raises). This is an unpredictable player and he could have easily had a lesser Ax. In fact, I put him on that. I was wrong. He called my pot size raise preflop with 58s!!! 2. The situation first set forth. flop comes 886. I bet out and am raised the pot. I had 6-5 in the SB unraised pot. I bet out the pot and am flat called by the same player above. All others folded. I couldnt believe he made trips again. But I check and he makes a suspiciously small raise. But given that he called a pot size raise on the flop, I reluctantly folded even though I thought his raise was weak. I showed him my 6 and he shows my A4os. Unbelievable!!! 3. I am in the SB in a PLHE game ($2-2 blinds) and 2 players limp in, and I have J9s. The flop comes 955. I bet out the pot, 2 limpers fold and the button reraises the pot!!! The game was going to break up in 15 minutes and I was down $150 at this point. I was 99% sure this guy had a 5, but the flop came with two suited cards. I know he was putting me on a 4-flush (he knows I would make that play). This guy limps in with all kinds of connected cards, so he could just as easily be playing 89 or 9T as 56. I didn't think he had a set as he would have raised preflop with a pair (even a small pair). I know it was a terrible call, but I called basically out of utter frustration (not a good enough reason). I actually re-raised allin (the call was going to put me with my last $10 in front of me anyway). He had 5-6 and I didn't hit my 9. One of the other players commented that it was an absolutely atrocious call (and I agree, it was). Just couldn't believe I was getting whacked for the third time on almost an identical hand. Really awful night. Sorry for the long post. | ||

| Mroban, I can feel your pain. These are the type of situations where I find myself loosing money when I play pot-limit again after I have been out of practice for a while. Then I remember that unless I have an excelent read on everyone else in the pot they are just not worth getting involved with. Take aim at your opponents entire stack when you decide to get deeply involved with a hand. Build hands that you can be confident about betting agressively. The small pots that you can take down with top pair no kicker, second pair overcard ect are often much more dangerous than they are worth, in my opinion. That said I am very much a beginner still. I may be way off the mark here. If I am then please somebody point this out to me. Snorbolus on 17.
