Going back to the "flop a set" thread.

Suppose you limp in with 99, and the flop comes 9c 8c 7c, and there is a bet and a raise in front of you. how would you play this?

It would depend on where the bettor and raiser are sitting compared to you, but I'd like to hear an expert opinion on this also. Good question.

On the flop you can't assume either a flop flush or a flopped straight. Very often players will bet and raise their draws for value or bet to protect against giving free cards. Strong flopped flushes often times wait until the turn to raise. Also you have a house draw so your hand is still pretty strong if you are up against a made straight of flush.

I would three bet here. This will give you some information on their hands and might slow up the guys with a weaker flush or straights to give you to opportunity to see this to the river for 1 1/2 BB instead of 2. bets.

I agree. You may have the best hand. If you dont three betting may give you a free card. You also have a good draw to filling up against a made hand on the flop. Good things happen when you raise.

Three bet without hesitation. The raise here means nothing because it could be someone with the naked A or K (or T for that matter) trying for a free card, Additionally, if there are players yet to act you need to make them pay dearly if they hold a card or cards that could draw to beat you. Sure, you might be staring at a str8 or flush already, but you have outs and you MUST take control of the hand if you are to play it.

Assuming that you do reraise, what would you do if either a J, 6 or a club falls? Dont you have to fold to a bet?

A club is the end for sure and probably a Jack. A 6 is more debatable, so it will depend on the action. However, even if bet into, you still will most likely have the odds to try for the house on the river, so I might just call the rest of the way. This is another reason why you 3-bet on the flop...to get out all others behind you so that you act last on succeeding rounds and therefore don't have to fear a raise behind you when you call.

Actually now that I think about it, you probably still have odds to call to try to hit the full house. Since there was a bet and a raise on the flop and you reraised there may be enough money in the pot (depending on what the original bettor did about your reraise). Nevermind my question.
