NLHE minimum raise amounts?, bdjncox, 16. Dec 2003 11:53

I've been playing in several home NLHE tourney's lately, but wanted to clarify the rules on raises.

My understanding is that the minimum open bet in a NLHE game is always the BB no matter which round of betting. I also understand that the minimum raise would be double the BB.

My question, assuming these ideas are right, is:

Does the minimum raise apply to all players during a round of betting? In other words, let's say the blinds are 25/50. If someone calls for 50, then another player raises to 100, is the minimum reraise $150 or could the person doing the reraise put in a lesser raise amount?

Sorry if this is confusing but this was brought up by a player in my games and I wanted to make sure I'm doing it right.

The minimum raise is the greater of the BB or the previous raise/bet on that round. So for instance if the blings are 25/50, and the intial bet is 75, then a person raising must raise to at least 150. If the raiser were to make it 200 to go, any re-raising would have to bet at least 325. Once that round of betting is over, the minimum bet/raise goes back to 50.

Except that you can't open for 75 if the BB is 50 (unless you're all in of course), minimum raise is still double the BB. So if the blinds are 25/50, the first raisers minimum raise is 50 (for a total bet of 100) and a reraiser can make a minimum raise of another 50 (total of 150). Same goes for each round.

Sorry, should have clarified that better. I meant on subsequent rounds after the flop, then you could open for 75 and the next raise would have to be to at least 150. Pre-flop, you would have to open for at least 100.

Thanks for the clarifications....
