Becoming a dealer and dealer school, Bond18, 15. Dec 2003 14:08 | ||

| A few weeks ago i snuck into a casino and have since been wondering what a dealer makes an hour. A college semester has taught me one thing and one thing only, i hate college and have no desire to end up in some 9 to 5 stiff job with a wife 2 kids and minivan. I think i could be VERY content being a dealer or working in a casino while playing on the side to supplement my income. So my questions are as follows: 1. Where does one go for a good dealer school, theres plenty around but how do you know which are good or just garbage? 2. Whats a dealer make per year working say 40 hours a week, or for that matter what do they make an hour, cause i got no idea? 3. Isn't a dealer job what many get before going pro so they can be in the gambling atmosphere and have a decent income before risking pro? | ||

| One piece of advise I can give you: STICK THROUGH COLLEGE AND GET AN EDUCATION. You do NOT want live without and education, and you especially do not want to make a miracle attempt at working your way at becoming a pro by earning as a dealer. Give me a break. I sure hope this is a joke. If it is not a joke, then you are too young and need to study more. Get your education, that piece of paper with your name and degree on it from a college is worth a lot more than from a dealer school, TRUST ME. | ||

| It has been said more than once that Poker is a tough way to make an easy living. It also has been said that there are very few professional poker players. (I know, there are more now with online poker.) What is a good living? 50K, 100K, 150K? You will notice that most really successful professional poker players get distracted after they get notoriety. They write columns, books, sell real estate [Thinking of you, Roy]. Why do they do that? These are people who are on the top of the game and they are doing other things. There is lots written about this so I hope you dig deeper on your dream to be a professional poker player. I to had dreams of being a professional poker player but have become resigned to the fact that I can never match the 100K+, benefits, pension, and stability that my job provides. I can also look with pride that I accomplish something in my life other than taking money from the mathematically challenged. Can you really see yourself sitting at a table day in and day out just waiting for your cards? Will poker stay at these levels of popularity? Remember there used to be lots of professional billiards players. Stay in school. Play poker in your spare time. I hear the U Nevada - Las Vegas is a fine school. | ||
