Bad Beat Mentality, Jojo, 14. Dec 2003 02:40

One day, I hope to not be influenced by bad beats. I took waaay too many bad beats this week, at least triple or more than I'm used to. This will be my first losing week(Unless tommorrow treats me right, I really don't have much more to make up).
I had been playing poorly all week at NL, winning 3-6 percent. Then I get to the freeroll on Friday night...and all the sudden I'm winning 10-15 percent all tourney. Unfortunately I sent 10 10 up against 9 9 pre-flop and a 9 hit on the river...140th place but at least I made the right call, had I made it I would have been up to 15000 and have placed again(I took 60th last one).
I really didn't get better cards, I just played more aggressive. When I take all those bad beats, I still played the same hands...I still made the same raises and opening calls. What I realize is I stopped calling as many big bets on the river card as I was before, therefore getting bluffed out of some pots...I stopped throwing a bunch of money into a pot and bluffing it when I knew it was the right thing to do.
Live and learn is, I guess, the poker motto. Oh well, I can now live with losing for one week, I'm sure it won't be the last ever. Plus when I counted how much i've deposited into my bank account the last two months it made taking this week a lot easier.
