How did I play this?, iceman5, 12. Dec 2003 15:34 | ||

| Im playing $2/$4 in a fairly aggressive game. Theres a preflop raise probably every other hand. UTG raises (a little wihile ago he raised with AT). The next guy calls the raise. I am next with TT and I reraise because I think I have the best hand and dont want any KQ's or AJ's coming in after me (which people have been calling raises with). Its folded around and both guys call my reraise. The flop comes 3 way. The flop is J54 rainbow. UTG checks. Next guy bets. I raise. I figure I may still have the best hand and may want a free look at the turn. UTG folds. The bettor calls my raise. The turn is a 3 (J543). My opponent checks. I now figure him for AK or AQ so I bet and he calls. The river is a 2 (J5432). Wonderful (he says sarcastically). He checks. I check. He has AK and wins with the str8. How did I play? And do you think he should have called with the overcards? isnt there too good a chance I have KK or AA meaning he is possibly drawing dead? | ||

| I thought you played the hand about as well as it can be played. You put money into the pot every chance you got when you had the lead and then checked when you thought you were beat. I love the raise on the flop because now HE is the one who is being tested not you. The fact that he drew out on you has no bearing on how well you played the hand, but you know that already. | ||

| The preflop raise could go either way. If you think you're likely to fold everyone else out, then go for it, but the caller in between you scares me a bit. The last thing I want to do is play my tens 4 handed for 3 bets each. People will be chasing overcards with a pot that large, and with 3 other hands to beat me, pretty much any overcard kills the hand immediately. It puts you in a tough spot, but given the circumstances of the UTG raiser, it was probably better to raise. The flop raise is decent although you can't really rule out AJ. I'd imagine he'd play it the same way as he played his AK, perhaps fearing you have an overpair with all the strength you've shown. Calling the turn bet wasn't too bad, he did have 2 big overcards and a gutshot at the wheel. You just got drawn out on. This is also a good spot to check the river, not bet. With that board, there's close to no hands that will call you if they aren't winning. Good job there. Lee | ||
