Question on finishing position in a tournament, jpt08, 11. Dec 2003 19:01 | ||

| I have a question about finishing position when 3 people are all-in and 2 get knocked out. The two that get knocked out how do you determine who finishes better? Here is an example of a situation that recently happened where the finishing place in a hand would determine who was in the money. Thanks in advance for any help! Twelve person home tournament, everyone started with 3000 in chips. The top 3 are in the money, 4 people left, and the blinds are 250/500. ***(chip count round to the nearest thousand) Seat1 - Chip leader 15,000 Seat2 (Me) - 9,000 Seat3 - 2,000 Seat4 - 10,000 Seat1 is UTG and folds Seat2 (Me) - AsAd - raise to 3000 Seat3(sb) - Ah8d - calls all in for 2000 Seat4(bb) - 9h5h - calls 3000 Flop - 10h, Ac, 4h Seat2 (Me) - check (This was a mistake! Should have bet!) Seat3 - All-in already Seat4 - Bets all-in for 7000 Seat2 (Me) - call all-in for 6000 Turn - Ks River - Jh So, the board is 10h, Ac, 4h, Ks, Jh Seat2 (Me) - Trip Aces Seat3 - Pair Aces Seat4 - Jack high flush So the question is, do I get 3rd place alone? If so, why, because I had more chips or because I had a better hand? If we had equal chips would the best hand win it or would it be a tie for third because we both lost the hand? We agreed that I had third place alone because I did have more chips and the better hand, is that right or do I owe him half the money? By the way, seat4 said he called my raise and went all-in with the flush draw because the 5h is his lucky card, lol! Thanks again for any help! | ||

| From what I've always heard, the better hand has nothing to do with it. If two or more people get knocked out on the same hand, their placement is determined exclusively by stack-size prior to that hand (presumably in the case of equal stack-sizes, one would just split the winnings accordingly?). | ||

| very easy answer to this one: if 2 people are knocked out of a tourny on the same hand, the player with more money into the pot finishes ahead of the other person. | ||

| trnmt placing when two or more people go all in is usually determined by # of trnmt chips at the beginning of the last hand. kennycatkiller | ||
