| Friday, November 28, 2003 I wasn't able to try the Bellagio experiment again. The cardroom was packed. Just getting ONE seat was tough enough, I can't imagine changing stakes every hour or so. The tourney was huge, but I couldn't participate, due to needing to pick my husband up at the airport at 10:30pm. I did, however, get a chance to meet Mason and Roy Cooke, along with some friends I know from the Colorado Belle who are in town. Mason is just like I expected him. I think he saw me right about the time I saw him! And he'd never met me before! Very astute eye. He said he'd read that I cut my hair, but still had it bleached blonde. We talked a little bit about the NLHE cash games in town and my "experiment." He signed up for the 30/60 and was waiting for a seat. Roy was also playing in the 30/60 and I greeted him. My friend, Chris, from several of my Laughlin posts, was playing in that same 30/60 game. Chris said he'd be in town for Thanksgiving. His ex-girlfriend, Felice, was also in town, playing in the tourney. I had a feeling, from the first time I'd met Chris, that he wasn't "over" Felice. A couple of weeks ago, she came to town to get some of the things she'd left in their house. I could tell that Chris was not over her. On Friday at the Bellagio, they seemed close. I got the impression that maybe they were trying to work it out. My feeling was partially confirmed when Chris told me he was thinking about selling his house and moving to Vegas. That is where Felice went when they broke up. Felice is playing the higher limit games; 80/160, 50/100, etc. She is also playing a lot of tourneys and won a Limit Hold'em tourney at Hollywood Park for over 30k. I will really miss Chris, but I wish him the very best! My 15/30 table was a little grumpy, and I wish I hadn't played at all. I actually got a table transfer, because my original table was very tight. I got my wish, for loose players, but I couldn't get anything much going on. One player from Germany liked to switch things up a bit. He'd obviously read some books. He would raise with trash hands like 72s or 76o. His problem was that he would raise with those hands when others had already limped in, or with a group of players behind him who would NOT fold, lol. There was a guy in the one seat who was trying to give players a red bird when he sucked out on them. He said he "got off" on busting premium hands. He also called all the women at the table "old hags," even though we were younger than him. I think he was trying to be funny, but it came across all wrong, as he was calling us the "old hags" as he was cutting us down or laughing at drawing out on us. Whatever. I just put in my earplugs and kept playing. It was obvious the dealer wasn't going to do anything about it. I didn't play that well. I was in a bad mood, had a headache, and was excited about Glenn coming back. All of the WRONG reasons to play. I was manipulated and off my game. My premium cards didn't hold up, and I didn't get involved in the right drawing hands, choosing instead to go into a tight/timid shell. I lost $400. I picked up Glenn at the airport. His plane was an hour late, and we'd agreed to meet outside. It was a good thing we agreed to do this, since the short-term parking lot was FULL. I kept circling around the airport, over 15 times. It was interesting. I saw human nature at it's best, and worst, during those loops. Families saying goodbye after a holiday weekend...hugging, kissing. All the best in the world to see. Glenn and I swung back by Bellagio, but the noise was making my headache even worse. I introduced him to a few people, but we didn't stay to play. The tournament was down to the last table. No big names were left. First place was 33k!!! The opponents at the final table were a mixture of young, "newbie" looking players, and older, crafty seniors. Glenn brushed by "Devilfish" Ulliott, but didn't recognize him. I laughed, then pointed him out at the 100/200 table. Glenn said he was playing very well, that the other players were BAD. Maybe some of them just wanted to play with a big name. Felicia :) | ||
