Where should I play online??, Quark, 11. Dec 2003 09:36
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
Hi. I am relatively new to poker, but I'm getting bored with the freeroll and play money games. I am told it is nothing like the real thing...
So, I'm thinking of depositing $10000 into a NetTeller account and trying my luck at making some bucks online.

What are the poker sites with the WORST (loosest?) players?? Is there a difference between something like Pokerstars.com and Pokerroom.com?
And if there is no appreciable difference in the "bad player quotient", what other factors should I take into consideration when choosing which online venue in which to risk my real money?

Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Hi-

You said that you're relatively new to poker and you're bored of play money games, so you thought you'd deposit "$10,000" into an account?! Seriously, unless you accidentally typed in one too many zeros there, you may want to consider depositing a little bit less. Grant it, you could cash out whenever you chose, but I still think a smaller deposit (?) would be safer/better for you to start out with.

As far as chosing a site - it depends what you're looking for really. I play at Party Poker and on Poker Stars. Party has a lot of games to chose from with a lot of poor players, and I find the games to be very beatable. And Poker Stars has the Omaha games with the limits I like to play at. You can also look into Ultimate Bet and Paradise Poker. Why don't you download a few of them and check them out first. See what they have to offer. Good Luck to you.

"Seriously, unless you accidentally typed in one too many zeros there, you may want to consider depositing a little bit less."

I'd go for two too many zeros. If you have never played really money then I personally would just start with $50-$100 and try some micro-limit (like $0.01 / $0.02 or $0.10 / $0.20) and slowly move up when you know you can beat your current level.

You can play a lot of hands (and learn a lot) with $50 on a $0.01 cent table.

Thanks for the advices, guys. Yes, I did mean $10000. I don't want to keep depositing more and more money after I lose the first $100, so I figure I have the cash and might as well make it work for me, right? My strategy IS to start slow....
Someone mentioned 1 cent/2 cent tables? I heard that those were just as bad as the free ones, but I may start there, or something similar.

I was thinking starting with $5/$10 and working my way up from there...

4 Poker, thanks for mentioning PartyPoker.com. That is one I had not checked out before.

Any other suggestions?? Thanks again.

Yup please come to Party with $10k :)

Seriously, if money isn't really an option don't bother with the $0.01 games but I wouldn't jump right into the $5 games either. Party has good $1/$2 games. You might want to start there and move up limits once you feel confident that you can beat the lower limit games. If you don't have a lot of real money game experience, the $5 games will probably eat you alive and you will more than likely lose the $10k (and it will happen faster than you would think)... Sorry $5 Party Players but I have to tell him the truth. If you are okay with losing this then by all means play the $5 games if you are comfortable with that. If you are doing this because you want to make money however, it is best to start off at lower limits and work your way up.

If you can't beat the $1/$2 game, you will not beat the $5/$10 game. $10k can disappear in a few thousand hands if you don't know what you're doing at the $5 level which might only take you a week or so to play.

Thanks. I appreciate the honest advice. Don't worry. Even though I have a large starting bankroll I do plan on working my way slowly up to the higher limits. That's why I've been playing the play money tables for the last 6 months.

Yea 10 grand is a bit to deposit. I started with 1,000 and built it to 5,000. This is way more rewarding than just dumping a big amount in. When I first started play on the internet (in May of this year), I knew nothing about Hold em Poker. Then I moved to Florida to help my grandmother out. So I got bored and searched out poker sites. I have accounts at 71 sites as of now. Some have money in them and some don't. I deposited 50 bucks in each site I wanted to play at. Look at the promotions for first time depositers. Party and Empire poker have the best. 20% bonus. Deposit 50 bucks then play 50 raked hands and they add the 10 dollar bonus. Some have better first deposti percentages but you have to play much more. Another good place is Pokerstars. 50 bucks will last a bit if you enter the 1-2-3 dollar tourneys they have. You will get valuable experience for little dollars. This is how I learned, plus if you catch good cards you might make some money back. The third week I played I won three 3 dollar hold em tourneys. I won 800 bucks in each. I have stopped almost all of my tourney play and now play in pot games. Now that I own my own business I can jump in and out when I have time to play.

Other sites: Inter Tops Poker; Victor Chandler (or any other Prima network site); Delta Poker Club; Paradise Poker; Dynamite Poker; Atlantis World Poker; American Poker Club; Absolute Poker; Big Bet Poker; Poker Joint; Intercasino; Ultimate Bet (the best players seem to be here-I like their points system) and there are countless others.

I recommend Empire Poker and Party Poker first...play the minimum hands needed for your bonus and then cash out. Put the money elsewhere (this way you can see if you cash out at a profit or not.)

Christ I am sleepy...good night

Thank you Keith.

Its interesting how this thread has turned into criticism for starting with a large bankroll. I appreciate the input, but I look at it as a long term investment with "found money" so to speak.

ANyway,

Keith's is really helpful advice... I have been playing mostly on POkerStarts lately, but I just checked out PartyPOker, which I like too. I should check out the special deals, etc. for first time deposits.

I guess I need an access code for that?

Thank you again everyone.

I looked on Party Poker and it seems like they don't have any very low limit tables for real money. PokerStars has 1 cent / 2 cent or nickel/dime etc for real money limit games.

If I'm looking to play for a week risking only $100, Party Poker's $1/$2 seem out of the question, no?

ALSO, where does it list what the rules for Rakes are?

thanks again!

Confused of so many sign up links...? Try read the following... ...
Trust what you see by your own. Don't lured by only "Promising"

TO ensure you will get the bonus, Please check the following before and when sign up:

Make sure you are Using the corresponding sign up bonus code: (In capital letter)

20% up to $100 Extra on First Deposit with sign up code: 100CASH
http://www.partypoker.com/offers/signup_20_100_std.html

$25 bonus for first deposit of $50! with sign up code: EASY25
(better for players with small bankroll)
http://www.partypoker.com/offers/signup_0_25_std.htm

Typically you will see the bonus in "PENDING" mode when you first sign up for the account. The amount will not show up until you make a real deposit and play the required poker hands.(5 times bonus amount) You should be able to check the status of the bonus amount by click on "bonus account" When you login in the real money account.

You should see a message like this when you login your real money acocunt:

If you do not see the bonus money show up (which very rarely will happen). You may contact the floor person (available 24/7 when you sit down on a real table.) They should be able to make adjustment for your account or send me PM in the forum, i will be happy to help you out.It is really worthwhile to spend little effort and wait for 2-3 days to get one iGM-Pay account or a Firepay account to handle all your online gambling needs.

Get your account funded by the following simple and easy way:

Most CC company will no longer take internet gaming transaction. Plus huge fee associated with cash advance and interest rate. Take a look at many options for fund the account is to use iGM-Pay provided by partypoker.com.

iGM-Pay is safe, Best of all it is fast and easy to use,and it's totally
FREE. All you need is a bank account. (better with online access, i would open a seperate account just for online game trasaction)

To use iGM-Pay, all you need to do is provide the information that appears on your paper checks(for ACH transfer). Then you will see two small deposit on your bank statement electronically after registered your account. The deposit amount needs to be verified by input the two exact deposit amount when you login in your partypoker account.

The two small deposit takes 2-3 days to appear on the bank statement. After this amount is verified, the fund will be available to play in real time. I personally use this method to fund my account. It's faster than Netteller.com (hell slow deposit takes 4-5 days) and cheaper than firepay.com (requires flat deposit charge $1.5 but $10 for cashout to your bank account)

Good Luck to all!
