Last night Mike Sexton commented on Evelyn going and talking to Danny N. Between hands. He stated something like "I don't know if I like that", inferring that she was breaking a rule. That's not a rule is it? It was obvious that Danny was giving her a pep talk, but if it's not against the rules, its not against the rules. If it was during a hand that would be different. He did not say anything when (I cannot remember her name) went over and got the good luck Teddy Bear from her husband. People chit chat all of the time with friends and family, especially during breaks in the early stages in tournaments. For Mike to comment on that, I think, was wrong.

There's a big difference between getting a teddy bear from your spouse and talking with your coach.

I agree with his comments. You shouldn't be able to confer with a coach at any time during the tourament.

But that is not the point.... IS IT A RULE OR ISN'T IT????? If she was within the rules of tournament play, someones opinion should not be construed as a violation of the rules.

By the way, she was also having a conversion with her husband while obtaining the Teddy Bear.

actually this should probably come up for discussion if its not a rule.
lets take WSoP as an example
part of the tournement is the fatigue the players go through during the event. if someone were allowed to talk to their coach *who one assumes is a world class player themselves* they could gain info that their brain is to tired to pickup *tells and such*
on the other hand someone telling you to keep your chin up and just keep focusing and such is a good thing *one of those lines where you can cross over so easy without meaning to*

Rule #1 of Poker
Circumstances alter cases
Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1

I don't know if it clarifies anything, but during the '03 WSOP Sammy Farha and someone else were involved in a big hand. During the hand (or so the editing made it seem) Moneymaker went over to the seats where his Dad was sitting and told him how tired he was. Then he and his dad were discussing how Farha, when faced with a big call, will fold if he starts playing with his chips. If he doesn't fiddle with his chips excessively then he'll call (the hand proved the theory). This may or may not be an advantage, seeing as how you'd have to bet first before you could read him, but since no one has mentioned this before I either have the circumstances wrong or it is legal.

While we're discussing the WSOP, Vakronyi went over to talk to his coach on day one. I didn't hear any of the announcers say it was illegal. I guess no one's really thought about it too much since we don't really see people in tourneys going over to anyone. After all, they're freaking pros.

Well, it would be a ridiculous rule to try to enforce, because everyone in the audience knows something about poker, so you'd pretty much have to outlaw any of the players from talking to ANYONE.

It looked like all he was saying was "You're doing great, keep it up" or something like that, so I don't see what the big deal is. Maureen's husband plays all the tournaments, and nobody commented when she talked to him.

I don't think it was a pep talk at all, and didn't see it that way one bit. To me it looked like he was telling her something about how to play, he even points back to Clonie at one point, like he was giving a tell or something. I didn't like it at all either. Going to get a hug and good luck charm from your spouse vs going to talk about other peoples play at the hand during a tourney are different things, IMO.
