Wretched O8 staring hands, Schuster, 10. Dec 2003 14:23 | ||

| In the 2 chip 3 chip blind structure, does anyone have any advice on how bad an O8 or omaha high hand can be and still throw the extra chip in? From playing mostly hold'em, I've been seeing the flop with anything in an unraised pot, but I wonder if this is another difference between the games. Lee | ||

| When I play O/8 with this structure, I toss a lot of my middle-dominated hands (if I put the chip in, I may make a hand I don't really want to be making, such as a middle straight or two pair). I think it's correct to fold 6789 and save the one chip. Mark | ||

| Wow. You'd fold 6789 for only a 1/3 blind cost? I guess it depends on the quality of the other players in the game and how well you think you can play the hand when it gets somewhere. | ||

| I wouldn't play that hand either from the small blind - even if it was 1/3. Often times when you do connect with it on the flop, it makes a lot of second bests - and if you do flop the nut low straight, at best you'd be fighting for half and you'd have to contend with the made nut lows with the redraws to flushes etc.. It just has no where to go too many of the time, and it scoops very seldom. Although I would toss in the extra chip with a 3-legged hand that contained 3 broadway cards - like K-Q-J-X. Flakes | ||

Other than that, I figure I'm drawing for half the pot at best, and will wind up trapped and losing both ways in most situations.
