Rake? A Self-Tip? Jackpot Rake? What the..., danimales, 10. Dec 2003 11:47

| I'm a newbie, so this question may seem really dumb, please be patient... When I was playing at the Belle in Laughlin, I noticed something rather odd, and it happened a several times. Every now and then, when I would put out a bet, the dealer would take one of the chips ($1 chips), and make change with quarters, put two in the pot and two in his pouch he had on his belt. Now one of two things, he's stealing from the pot (incredibly doubtful), or this is how the 'Belle takes a rake, or something else? I always thought the rake came after the hand was over, or do they do it as the bets come? Thing is, this scenario didn't happen enough that it would appear to be part of the rake. | ||

| good grief this sounds ugly, what possible reason would he have for taking money out of the pot and putting in his personal spot *im assuming your not saying the drop slots* im missing something cause this just boggles my brain, as you said stealing from the pot doesnt make sense but what else could it be? noone is ever forced to tip or else its just more rake, something just doesnt make sense Rule #1 of Poker Circumstances alter cases Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1 | ||

| Nope, it wasn't in the drop slot. The pouch was definately on his person. Sometimes it would involve putting four quarters in the pot in exchange for the dollar chip, and then would proceed to put the chip in the pouch! I don't know what he was doing. I seriously doubt it was theft of anykind with all the cameras in there, and it didn't appear that he was trying to be sly about it. Felicia, you're the Laughlin expert; any idea what this is all about? | ||

| The dealers don't want so many quarters in their pouches, so sometimes they'll take quarters, exchange them for chips, then drop the chips in their tip pouches or cups. I have never seen any of them over-rake. Felicia :) My Poker Journal: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FeliciaLee | ||

So he put in a dollar in quarters and took out a $1 chip.... sounds like his quarter tips are getting heavy. I see the dealers take 5 $1 chips out of the pot and replace it with a $5 chip or the other way around too... It just depends on if they are getting low on $1 chips or low on $5 chips. They will make change (or get bigger denominations) from the pot

| Okay, maybe I'm not explaining this right. 1. There was a drop slot on the table where they would put tips, not in the dealer's pouch. 2. When he would make change from the pot, the quarters came from THE TRAY, not his pouch. For example (Notice the difference between the pouch, the drop slot, and the tray (where the dealer keeps all the chips)). I toss out a bet of $5 using $1 chips. The dealer takes 4 quarters from the table tray, puts them into the pot, and takes a $1 chip and puts it in his pouch, which is on/near his belt. After the River is turned up, we show our hands and I win, taking down the pot. I toss a $2 tip to the dealer, which he puts into the drop slot. -OR- I toss out a bet of $2 using quarters. The dealer takes a $1 from the table tray, puts it into the pot, and takes 2 quarts and puts it into the tray, and takes the other two quarters and puts it in his pouch, which is on/near his belt. After the River is turned up, we show our hands and I win, taking down the pot. I toss a $2 tip to the dealer, which he puts into the drop slot. Does this make sense? | ||
