Rakes and dealer tokes, blisterfoot, 10. Dec 2003 11:37 | ||

| I'm going to Vegas, have very little experience in B&M. Couple questions: 1. How high a rake is reasonable vs. I should play elsewhere? 2. What is customary for dealer tokes? Are you expected to tip every hand you win, even if you are losing for the session? 3. Are most Vegas games jackpot games? How big a jackpot rake should I expect, and how are jackpot games otherwise different? how should i adjust my play? Thanks | ||

| i believe in vegas the general rule of thumb is 10% upto $3 for rake *low limit of course* tipping i would suggest $.50 any time you win a hand worth more than 3 small bets *basically you call and only the big blind plays with you, and you win when you bet the flop you wouldnt tip cause this is pretty much the minimuum pot you'll win* Rule #1 of Poker Circumstances alter cases Rule #2 NEVER forget rule #1 | ||

| Hi, Mark is right about the low limit rake; it's usually around 10% with a $3 max. As for tokes, if you win a small pot, $.50 is pretty standard. Any time I win a fair sized pot, I shoot the dealer $1 (at the low limit tables) and if I win an exceptional pot or if the dealer is doing an exceptional job I'll slide over as much as $3 or $4 for the hand. As a rule of toking thumb, $1 is good at a low limit table. The dealers are generally graceful about accepting any size toke but I have heard them grumble out loud about being stiffed if the same person fails to toke them a couple of times. SpaceAce | ||

| you guys are toking off most you profit that way a doller at the end of a mistake free down is plenty . another if the dealer make a good ruling or corrects players who break the rules ( one hand to a player, show one show all ect with out being prompted ) This way your tokes reward correct behavior and manipulate the dealer into running a cleaner game and becomming a better dealer over all. | ||

| Timmer I tend to agree that tipping should be for being a good dealer. The dealer has no control over the cards that come out, even though they are traditionally credited with both positive and negative outcomes. That being said, I have limited experience in B&M's so maybe tipping on a dragged pot is just 'the way it's done'. | ||

| I have a few hours in the B&M's and I find end toking is the way to go. Its cheaper overall easy to define your toking expence and really encourages the dealers to deal "clean" downs and enforce rules. timmer | ||
