Finding good games in Vegas, blisterfoot, 10. Dec 2003 10:10

Hi e1. 2 questions:

1) I'm heading to Vegas for a week in early January. Where are the best places to play? (looking for $2/$4, $3/6, $4/$8, $5/$10 tops). Am I more like to find easy games in the big casinos (and if so, which ones?), or in the smaller places off the strip, etc.?

2) How do you pick a "good" table, in general? On the internet, it's easy, you can check the stats and watch the play before you choose. In a B&M, seems kind of like you have to just check in and hope they put you at a good table. Any suggestions?

Thanks e1

Hi,

I live here but most of the live playing I have done has been downtown and on the Strip. I would suggest the glitzy family-oriented places if you're looking for soft games. I would avoid places like the Bellagio because a lot of serious players hang out where there's a lot of money flying around.

I'm not sure about the locals' casinos like the Stations and such. It seems to me that they would be filled with local poker players who are not likely to be quite as soft as the tourists but as I said, I've done most of my live playing at the tourist-heavy places.

As for table selection, just look out for tables where someone LOOKS like a tough player. What I mean is, watch the tables for a while and don't sit down where there's one guy with five racks stacked in front of him who seems to be winning every third pot unless you think you can stay out of his way and bleed everyone else. Also, look for tables where people are smiling and having fun. Don't sit down in an obvious rock garden full of unhappy-looking people making tiny pots on every hand. Other than that, there really isn't much you can do and a lot of times table selection is out of your hands and you just have to take what's available.

BLISTERFOOT, THE ORLEANS HAS MANY GOOD GAMES, AND DAILY TOURNAMENTS. I WILL BE THERE IN JANUARY. ALSO THE MIRAGE IS GOOD IF YOU WANT TO BE ON THE STRIP. I WILL BE THERE ALSO. LJH
