Limit v No-Limit SnG's, Warren Olson, 10. Dec 2003 08:55

Just wanted some opinions from regular SnG players. Is it possible to
be as profitable playing the $30 limit Sng's as compared to the $30
No-limit Sng's.

I do better in limit than NL. I make the money for than half the time. I just haven't studied enough about NL to play with confidence.

I have played a couple of PL games and I like them more than NL. I can bet big with the right hand, but don't have to deal with the all in preflop. The thing that gets me about NL is the guys going all in preflop, I just don't know how to handle it. I've ordered Cloutier and McEvoy's book, so I'm sure I'll do better after reading that.

I have been absolutely crushing $30 Limit SnG's lately. I have a money rate of 70% over the past few weeks. Yes they can be and are very profitable.

Hmm would you be willing to describe a winning limit SNG startegy then, as i am entirely a NL SNG player, im intruiged, especially when i heard 70% money rate, thats ENORMOUS.

Blade, I employ no special straegy other than playing tight and aggressive poker. Espescially early when everyone is drawing to everything.

As the blinds get up to 100/200 it becomes easy to make steals, even with junky hands. Until that time it's almost pointless.

The way I've been seeing the tourneys is that two players typically are maniacs (read as morons) and will bust out early because they play too many hands raise with nothing et al. Try to isolate them if you can get them heads up. They'll pay you off nicely. alsdo there will likely be two to three strong players as well as your self. This is really who you are battleing for the money. Identyify them and approach with caution but aggression when you have strong stuff.

Pay attention to how your opponents play and make notes on them.

Play fearlessly and aggressively when you have strong hands and don't be afraid to make a strong laydown.

Good Luck

John

Man I thought I was the only one crushing the $30 limits. Though I haven't kept stats I would say I'm pretty close to that win rate in limits.

I'm 0 for my last 8 at $30 NL and I really have no idea why.

The other strange thing I haven't been able to figure out is that I have had much better results in NL multi-table than limits where all my money finishes have been in NL. and my limits results have been dismal.
