Here you are sitting down to a limit hold'em table at your usual casino - a long nights gaming awaits. As you pull your seat out and rest your lucky charms on the felt, you realise you are on the cutoff and faced with the nights first big decision: post now or wait for the big blind?

The situation as I see it is this:

Posting means you are essentially paying for (assuming a 10 seater table) 7 'free' hands. Thus each of the seven hands 'costs' one seventh of half a big bet or ((1/2)/7BBs = 1/14) 1/14th of a big bet)

Moreover, assuming at a B&M casino you achieve approx. 40 hands per hour, these 7 hands are the equivalent of (since (7/40)*60 = 10.5) 10.5 minutes play.

Therefore, for posting to be the profitable option you must be a player who earns, on average, more than 1/14th of a big bet per 10.5 minutes play.

To simplify, if your hourly rate is 'h';

so, (h/60)*10.5 > 1/14BB

thus, h > 0.41BB

So, if your hourly rate is greater than 0.41 big bets and you wish to maximise your nights profits, you should post instead of waiting.

Since I expect to earn 1.1 big bets per hour, I will always post .

Am I way off the mark here? Anyone's two cents is welcome.

Keep eeking out that +EV.

Stein.

Not to mention that you'd much rather put your blind money in while you have good position than bad position. If the game is full, I will post behind the puck. If it's short, I'll just wait until it comes around.
