| Hey everyone, Let me tell you about a situation I was in not to long ago that I wasn't really sure how to handle. Maybe some of you could help me out. I was playing a heads up game with a friend of mine who is considerably less experienced than I. I introduced him to hold 'em about a month ago. Anyway, he likes to check.......A LOT! Just about every single time. He could be holding top two pair with the river coming and he will check without any apparent thought or strategy behind it. He'll basically check whenever the bet is to him regardless of what he's holding. And if you bet, he's a calling station so it's pointless to try and bluff him out. Now, maybe it's just me, but this becomes extremely irritating, at which point I start making stupid moves. It's a lot easier when there are more players but is there anything I can do or should be doing when playing heads up with him? Thanks, Jarod | ||

| He's a calling station so play your hand straight up against him, don't try to bluff him and when you have a strong hand play aggressively. | ||

| You have an opponent who plays extremely predictably. That's great news! You shouldn't be irritated, you should be extremely happy. You should be able to beat him every time. Here's a few suggestions for playing this kind of player. 1. Play more longshot draws (gutshots, backdoors, etc.). Since he's willing to give unlimited free cards, take 'em. 2. Never bet your draws (a complement to #1). Why should you? He's not going to fold, so just check-check until you hit. An exception, of course, is a superdraw like a straight-flush draw, where you're a favorite to make your hand by the river. You should go ahead and bet these. 3. Bet more marginal made hands (the flip side of #2). Since he's a calling station, you need to make him pay to beat hands like middle pair, which you otherwise might not bet. 4. Don' t fear check-raises (a complement to #3). With a marginal hand and a scary board, it's often tempting not to bet for fear of a check-raise. That's not a problem here, so go ahead and bet if you think you're ahead. | ||
