I wonder if someone could tell me the advantages and disadvantages of certain spots. I am fairly new to Hold Em Poker (doing well on PokerStars with play money but that's lol).

Also if there were a few links to some reading which is not too extremely mathematical, more strategy / situational analysis oriented...

Is it easy to make money playing the .05 / .1 games? Should I try it?

Thank you in advance.

Do you mean online-poker sites? Links to reviews on www.pokerportal.co.uk www.wsop.dk

Plenty to start with here:
www.unitedpokerforum.com
www.cardplayer.com
www.pokerpages.com
www.poker1.com
www.pokerportal.co.uk
www.wsop.dk

It's very much do-able with some discipline and knowledge. Play good starting hands. Learn to calculate the odds. Read "Winning low-limit hold 'em" by Lee Jones. Browse the archives of this forum, ask questions.

>Should I try it?

That's not for me to answer.

By "spots" do you mean your position at the table? If so, being in a later position (spot) is advantageous because you get to see what your opponents do before you act.

OK, the advantage to being on the button is that everyone acts before you except pre-flop when the blinds both act after you. This allows you to see how the other players feel about their hands. This helps you steal blinds and/or thin the field by betting after everyone else has checked and allows you to get more money in the pot because if someone bets early and everyone between he and you just calls, you can raise and probably get a second bet out of a lot of the people who already put one in. The farther "off the button" you are, the earlier you act. This decreases the amount of information you get from other players before you act and increases the chance of someone raising behind you when you don't want them to.

Being in the big blind means you get to see some flops for "free" if no one raises before the action gets to you. This means you will occasionally hit a free flop with cards you would have thrown away otherwise. Being in the small blind means you can often play for half or a third of a bet which allows you to loosen up a little on your starting standards.

In general, being in late position is to your advantage. The earlier your position, the tighter you need to be on selecting hands to play. As your position gets better (later), you can play hands you wouldn't play in early position because of the information you gain by having everyone else acting before you.

It also depends on the type of game you are playing. In NL games for instance, earlier position may give you increased ability to bluff, since you will seem more aggressive and honest when you bet in early position. Betting out strong from late position when everybody checks to you smells much more like a bluff than an early position bet. However, this is risky and not an "advantage" so much as just a consideration.

You're right that it looks more like a bluff when you bet in late position after everyone has checked to you but your chances of picking up the pot are still vastly better than if someone else was already in. In low limit, at least, there is almost no chance of picking up the pot with an early raise because chances are at least one person behind you was planning to play and will do so for two bets as well as one. At least with the action is folded or checked around to you you don't have the emotional factor where other players feel dedicated to play because they already have money in on that round.

Also, I just wanted to give a resonable and simple explanation since the person is clearly new to the idea of Hold'Em table position.
