Suspicously small re-raises, jaustin, 8. Dec 2003 14:25

| Been playing quite a few NL tournaments on UB recently and and wondering how most of you tread when you're re-raised a small amount. The hand that got me thinking was my opening hand in a tourney today. Dealt AKs in EP, raise to 50. MP player re-raises the minimum to 90. I think about pushing all-in but decide it's too early and call. Flop comes K85. I check hoping to check-raise. He checks as well. Turn is another 5. I bet 150 into the 250 pot. He calls. River is an ace. I bet out 200 and get re-raised to 600. I call and he shows me KK for the boat. In retrospect, I think he may have been giving signs that he had a monster. The minimum re-raise pre-flop seems to be an invitation for me to push all-in, and then checking the flop after raising pre-flop seems suspicious as well. I've learned from experience to fear an early position limp more than a raise (when the blinds are high), should I also be weary of a minimum re-raise when the blinds are small? | ||

Not to be harsh, but why would you be thinking of moving in on him? If your post is accurate, you should have about 950 left correct? If you're going to re-raise, make it like 350 or so. What's the big rush to get all of your chips in before the flop? Flop comes K85. I check > hoping to check-raise. He checks as well. Good idea. However, you don't gain a lot of info by checking because he could now have AK, KK, AA, or could be scared of the K while holding QQ. Maybe a half pot bet is in order here and if he comes over the top you can lay down. > > Turn is another 5. I bet 150 into the 250 pot. He calls. River is an ace. Overall, I thought you played the hand fairly well. > In retrospect, I think he may have been giving signs that he had a monster. > The minimum re-raise pre-flop seems to be an invitation for me to push all-in, > and then checking the flop after raising pre-flop seems suspicious as well. > > I've learned from experience to fear an early position limp more than a raise > (when the blinds are high), should I also be weary of a minimum re-raise when > the blinds are small?
