Lucky ending for me, but was I right to be there?, Boftx, 8. Dec 2003 13:40

Here is another lunchtime special (it really does seem that mid-afternoon Eastern is a great time to play)

This hand turned out good for me, but I have to question my logic seeing how I overlooked the hand that the BB really had.

With only two limpers in front of me I like JJ for a strong hand. Any big A would have raised in this game, and the lack of any re-raises lets me know I'm not up against another PP. I'm not thrilled with the flop, but I like not seeing an A or K in it. I bet out not wanting to give a free card to the flush draw. The raise from the BB makes me think that is exactly what he has given how he has played before, but I do think about a Q there. I think Seat4 might have a Kx, else he might have re-raised, and Seat 5 folding pleases me no end. If Seat5 had called a raise and the 3-bet I would have had to seriously put him on a Q. I re-raise wanting to punish the flush draw I am sure is there. The turn eases my fears of another Q being in a hand, it is very unlikely for someone to have one, and since it does not help the flush draw I bet out planning to fold to a raise since that would show the 3rd Q. The subsequent calls re-inforce my thinking that one, maybe both of my opponents are chasing a flush. The river appears to me to be a blank so once again I bet out, and win the pot with a bigger 2-pair.

Obviously I was lucky to have that 2nd Q show up giving me a better 2-pair than the BB. I also think he had no business in this hand to start with, but that's poker. I think now that Seat4 had the flush draw.

Would any of you have put the BB on 2-pair? Does my thought process seem reasonable or am I overlooking too many factors? Was it reasonable for me to think that I did not need to fear trip Q's as opposed to just pair of Q's given how unlikely that would have been?

Thanks,
Jim

hmmmm almost assured 9-1 odds on his call of your raise *since 3 others already in and probably will call* just when do the odds say any 2 are worth a call?
