| This weekend I went back to playing O/8 and have not had a losing session yet. In one pot limit game I made 7X the buy in. The games at party are great right now. O/8 has become the game of choice for me for the following reasons. 1) Much lower variance. 2) In O/8 I always feel "in control", meaning, I feel like I know all possibilities and it is just a matter of what cards come. Whereas, in hold em I am guessing too much. This costs me money by making second best hands and also makes "bad beats" sting worse. 3) I am still learning the game. Every time I play I figure out a couple more things. Learning the game on my own is very enjoying and satisfying. 4) Maybe, the most important reason: I'm making money. More than I ever did in hold em. I was wondering if anyone else agrees with me. Also,It seems like the game is easier to beat for a decent player. If this is true how come the number of players pales in comparison to hold em? | ||

| UH, SO MAYBE ADAM THE EXPERT WAS CORRECT, WHEN HE ANNOUNCED WEEKS AGO THAT HOLD EM, WAS A HOPELESS GAME, INVENTED ONLY TO BENEFIT THE CASINOS!! SO, WE'RE LEARNING. AS FAR AS WHY THERE ARE MORE HOLD EM PLAYERS, IT IS BECAUSE THE BAD PLAYERS, HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN, IN HOLD EM, AND NO CHANCE TO WIN, IN OMAHA. THIS WAS TRUE, WITH ALL OF THE "PRE 1987 GAMES" AS ADAM THE EXPERT CALLS THEM. SIX CARD STUD, RAZZ, DRAW JACKS BACK LOWBALL, NO LIMIT, AND OF COURSE, THE GRANDADDY OF ALL "SUCKERS CANNOT WIN" GAMES (WHERE SKLANSKY GOT RICH) HIGH LOW STUD, NO QUALIFIER FOR LOW. IF YOU TRULY KNOW OMAHA, YOU CAN WIN MUCH MORE MONEY, AND BE "IN CONTROL" A.T.E. | ||

| I've been playing O/8 more and more recently, mainly at paradise. Even though I play a very tight game as I believe I should I can't really seem to get out of red. I read the board fairly well, but lack in the counting outs department. A made hand on the flop is a made hand for me and not a drawing hand as ADAMTHEEXPERT said. I think I lose a lot of money by not getting out of hold'em mode. One other grief is that I wait for some A23 hand only to be counterfeited or quartered or getting 1/6 or 1/8 of the pot. Or even lose to someone with 56 in their hand while I must play an 8 on the board because I'm counterfeited Not fun. Too me it has been an expensive learning process in the cash games. However I have done much better in the Pokerstars SnG's. I believe that's because I don't mind throwing away a somewhat good hand, fearing I'll lose money like in the cash games. I guess I go into a survival mode instead. I do agree that it's a potential moneymaker (no pun intended), but I'm not there yet. I've read somewhere that A2XX is playable from any position even for a raise. I found that to be very dangerous. Do you agree. A3XX hits the muck right away for me. To intimidated? | ||

| To my mind a game in which suckers cannot win is the last place that you want to be. As this this can only lead to one of the worst phenomenon that a poker player can encounter: NO SUCKERS. As far as suckers "winning" at holdem, I am surprised by your situational reading Adam. Yes they may win over spells of time, but in the long run no way. This therefore creates for the suckers an illusion of success or possible success and therefore keeps them in the game and keeps the rebuying into poker once they inevitably go bust. This means that your skill differential over your opponents can remain constant, games in which the fish quickly bust out I would imagine the skill differential must lessen as all the good players compete amongst themselves. | ||

| I agree. I want suckers at my table AND I want them winning pots. Not many of course, but enough to keep them coming back. At my Friday home game we play 1/2 with a $50 buy in and one rebuy. We always get a newbie or two who watches the WSOP, tries to play like Sam Farha and gets smoked. Last Friday a guy was out in an hour and thought he was screwed because we played serious. He pretty much got laughed out of my house. But that's who I make the money off of. The big time pros don't want ot sit down with each other, they want a trust fund baby who wants to take down a legend. | ||

| I have been trying to learn O/8, with mixed success thus far. But I disagree with you abou junking HE. The fact is, HE is THEgame of the moment. Inexperienced players come into the casinos fresh from watching the WPT and they play HE--not O/8. I may be wrong, but I'd guess that casino O/8 players have much more poker experience (even if they're recent converts to O/8). As has been discussed ad nauseam on this form, loose-passive fish filled tabled will produce many freakish bad beats...but in the long run, it's the profitable place to be. | ||
