"qualifier" tourneys, Andrew W, 7. Dec 2003 12:40

I've finally started playing the Party Poker "qualifying" tournaments, as they're the lowest buy-ins they have for a multi-table tourney. Friday, I shot myself in the foot at the last minute and missed a qualifying spot for Saturday's 200k guaranteed, (see bad beats for pitiful story.)

Last night I redeemed myself, taking 3rd in the Qualifier for the Friday special $200 buy in. Top 11 got spots, 283 entered.

Even though I made a fatal mistake in the one, which drilled the lesson hard into my head, I feel like I played well in both, making it to the money area almost "easily." So I'm thinking maybe I should play another Friday qualifier, since a winning spot would mean $215 cash refund to my account, with my first entry already made.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else plays these types of tourneys for the cash regularly. It seems to have a different feel toward the mid-range since all qualifiers get the same package. Socialist prize pot you could call it. ;-) I mean, obviously my main goal was first to get into the big one I would never buy into directly, but now that I'm in, I think I could make more playing this sort of tourney than entering a traditional one.

Anyone have any thoughts on the qualitative differences between the qualifier and the traditional?

I didn't know they gave you cash in lieu of an entry.

I had a similar thought to yours, that being since when im in the money in SNGs i have a higher % of getting 1st, so that maybe i could play the satellites for the big ones for the cash. I think your idea is a sound one since the play in those 10 dollar and 30 dollar super satellites is pretty bad if you got the bankroll to support the swings it may cause.

They pay cash if you earn more than one. I won one, so any more would be cash.
